She was thrust into the spotlight in 2019 when she appeared on Team Kelly on The Voice Australia.

And now almost three years later, Lara Dabbagh, now professionally known as Lara D, is living her dream after landing a deal with Sony Music Australia.

‘I’ve been signed to Sony for two years now, and just released my EP. It’s really exciting,’ she told Daily Mail Australia.

After signing with the Sydney-based label, Lara traveled to LA where she spent time with renowned producers and songwriters including Diane Warren and Rodney Jerkins. 

‘The first time I met Diane, we listened to some songs that she wrote… and I got in the studio the next day to try and make it my own,’ Lara recalled.

‘I’ll be holding onto that until I’m ready to release my album.’

‘I feel like my life is set out for me the way it is. I come from a very cultural background being half Middle Eastern and half Moroccan, singing has always been what I wanted to do, there’s been no plan B.’

‘I’ve had so many like amazing people tell me that I’m one of the kind, that I’ve got a very special tone, and what I create is so different from what they’ve heard,’ she said.

‘I feel like that feedback helps me stay motivated… that and Alicia Keys is following me on Instagram,’ she laughed.

‘I started crying. She was the first artist I saw in concert, so it was a big thing for me.’
