Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) faced hordes of super infected that had been released from underground in their dangerous bid to make it out of Kansas City alive in the new episode of HBO’s The Last Of Us.
Episode 5 of the series titled Endure and Survive opened with rebels in Kansas City killing all the individuals in town who had collaborated with the Federal Disaster Response Agency (FEDRA).
Henry (Lamar Johnson) and his deaf brother Sam (Keivonn Woodard) ran into a building for shelter.
Meanwhile the leader of the rebels, Kathleen (Melanie Lynskey, who called out model Adrianne Curry for her tweets about her body type) sat down in front of a group of collaborators that were being held in a cell.
‘Did it feel good betraying your neighbors to FEDRA?’ Kathleen asked. ‘Watching us get thrown in prison, watching us hang, so you could get medicine, alcohol, f***ing apples?’

She told them that no one would die if they told her where Henry was. When no one spoke up Kathleen told Perry to kill them.
‘He’s with Edelstein,’ one of the men said.
Kathleen then ordered her lieutenant Perry (Jeffrey Pierce) to kill all of them and go door-to-door in the city hunting for Henry.
Meanwhile, Henry and Sam had entered an abandoned building where they met with Doctor Edelstein (John Getz) who gave them supplies.
Henry said they needed to figure out a way out of the city. Sam huddled in the corner scared. He drew a picture and Henry said it was ‘super Sam.’ Henry gave Sam crayons and told him to draw on the wall to make it look better.
Ten days later, Henry and Sam waited for Dr. Edelstein but then finally accepted that he wasn’t coming back. He told Sam they needed to leave because they ran out of food. Henry painted a superhero mask on Sam’s face to give him confidence.
Just when they were about to leave the building, they saw Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) fend off attackers. Henry realized they would have a better chance of escaping if they teamed up with them.
At night while Joel and Ellie were sleeping, Henry and Sam snuck into their rooms and pointed guns at them, the point where Episode 4 came to an end.

Henry said the way out was through the maintenance tunnel and that FEDRA had pushed the infected underground. 15 years ago but the tunnels were clear.
‘As far as I can tell, it’s our only shot,’ Henry said.

They walked together through an abandoned building and then took the stairway down. The tunnel’s walls were covered with children’s drawings.
‘I heard about places like this,’ Joel said. ‘People went underground after the outbreak day. Built settlements.’

Henry said he gave up that man because Sam got sick with Leukemia and there was only one drug that worked and only FEDRA had it.
Joel, Ellie, Henry said and Sam made their way out of the tunnel and made their way down an empty street littered with broken down cars.
‘No one’s going to be here, my plan worked,’ Henry said.

Ellie told them they were headed to Wyoming and that they could come with them. Joel stared at her and just then a shot rang out. Joel told them to stay hidden and that they would run in the house and disarm the shooter. Joel killed the sharpshooter but then heard Kathleen’s voice over the radio.
‘Anthony hold them where they are,’ Kathleen said.
Joel screamed out the window as a convoy of cars headed straight toward Ellie, Henry and Sam. They tried to run away. Joel shot at the truck from above and managed to kill the driver before the truck hit Ellie. The truck blew up and exploded.

Just then the truck that had blown up lifted and fell into a sinkhole. Kathleen turned to watch. Instantly thousands of infected ran out of the hole and attacked the soldiers. Joel from above shot any of the infected that came close to Ellie. Ellie crawled to make it to an abandoned car but an infected climbed in the car with her.
A giant infected monster crawled out of the hole. Perry shot at it with his machine gun but it didn’t seem to do anything. He told Kathleen to run and not look back.
Truck: Just then the truck that had blown up lifted and fell into a sinkhole. Kathleen turned to watch. Instantly thousands of infected ran out of the hole and attacked the soldiers. Joel from above shot any of the infected that came close to Ellie. Ellie crawled to make it to an abandoned car but an infected climbed in the car with her

Later that night at a hotel, Joel told Henry that he could come to Wyoming with them. Henry said it would be nice for Sam to have a friend.
Sam wrote to Ellie on a pad asking ‘if you turn into a monster is it still you inside?’
Killed: Ellie got out of the car and saw Henry and Sam were being attacked by two infected and ran over and stabbed them. They ran to the house, but then Kathleen pulled a gun on them and told them to stop. An infected jumped out of nowhere and attacked and killed Kathleen. Thousands of infected people continued to run out of the hole
He then showed her his ankle and revealed to Ellie secretly that he had been bitten. Ellie showed him her healed bit. She cut her hand and told him that her blood was medicine. She cut her hand and rubbed her blood on him. He asked her to stay awake with him. Ellie agreed and the two hugged.
By morning, Ellie had fallen asleep. When she woke up, Sam was sitting on the edge of his bed facing the window. She touched him and he got up and tried to attack her.
‘Joel!’ Ellie screamed.
Bitten: He then showed her his ankle and revealed to Ellie secretly that he had been bitten. Ellie showed him her healed bit. She cut her hand and told him that her blood was medicine. She cut her hand and rubbed her blood on him. He asked her to stay awake with him. Ellie agreed and the two hugged

Henry grabbed Joel’s gun from him and said ‘nope, nope, nope.’ He then turned and shot Sam. Henry then pointed the gun at Joel.
‘Henry, give me the gun’ Joel said.
‘What did I do?’ Henry said. ‘What did I do? Sam.’
Sam’s blood ran out on the floor. Henry then turned the gun on himself and shot himself in the dead. Ellie and Joel buried them.

Ellie left a note on top of Sam’s grave that said ‘I’m sorry’ and then started walking west.
‘Let’s go,’ Ellie said to Joel.
The Last of Us will return next Sunday on HBO.
