The Great Christmas Bake Off: Sir Tony Robinson nearly DROPS his bauble cakes in clumsy blunder – before breaking down in tears when he gets a coveted Paul Hollywood handshake
Sir Tony Robinson stole the show as he appeared on the Great Christmas Bake Off 2022 on Saturday night to celebrate 40 years of Channel 4.
The Time Team star, 76, delighted viewers with his chaotic appearance when he nearly sent an entire tin of cakes flying to the floor in a clumsy blunder.
He then later broke down in tears when he received a coveted handshake from Paul Hollywood after he impressed the hard-to-please judge with his Signature Bake.

Joining Tony in the tent was The Big Breakfast star Gaby Roslin, TV star Miquita Oliver – who won Star Baker -, author Terry Christian and actress Claire Sweeney.
Returning were the show’s two hosts, Matt Lucas and Noel Fielding while judges Paul and Prue Leith were on hand to give their verdicts.
The bakers were first tasked with making eight mini bauble cakes for the Signature Bake – but as Tony took his turnip-themed bakes out of the oven he nearly dropped them on the floor.
Emotional: He then later broke down in tears when he received a coveted handshake from Paul Hollywood after he impressed the hard-to-please judge with his Signature Bake
Tony was describing how he had taken them out of the oven when he nearly tipped them over before screaming in horror and quickly recovering his balance of the tray.
A few minutes later during the chat about his cakes his became visibly emotional as Paul gave him glowing feedback and a handshake on his turnip cakes which he had placed in edible soil to look like a vegetable patch.
He said afterwards: ‘I got so emotional I wasn’t expecting that.’

Next in the technical challenge they had to make a tear and share Christmas tree with baked camembert and cranberry sauce. Gaby came out on top with an excellent effort.
The show was to celebrate Channel 4’s 40th anniversary and so featured stars that had taken part in shows on the channel.
Next up was the Showstopper where the celebrities had to make a sweet festive wreath made out of either a meringue or choux pastry.

After much deliberation Miquita was chosen as the winner and Star Baker and was given a cake stand as her prize.
She said after her win: ‘I won! I Won! I actually just won! I think this is number one of Xmas presents I’ve ever got so I will put this on my wall in my new house!’
She added: ‘I’m so proud, I can’t believe it!’
Oh no! Noel beside him was left in stitches when he nearly dropped the cakes all over the tent floor

Happy: After much deliberation Miquita was chosen as the winner and Star Baker and was given a cake stand as her prize
Paul commented at the end: ‘She took the extra step and just did better than Gabby with that meringue!’
Fellow judge Prue added: ‘Her showstopper smashed it and I will even make it this at Christmas this year I think!’
At the end of the episode viewers were treated to a special performance from the English National Ballet.
Proud: She said after her win: ‘I won! I Won! I actually just won! I think this is number one of Xmas presents I’ve ever got so I will put this on my wall in my new house!’
Prue said of her win: ‘Her showstopper smashed it and I will even make it this at Christmas this year I think!’
