Speaking to Daily Mail Australia on Monday, Omar said he was ‘disappointed’ viewers would accuse him and Oz of bringing in a ‘dummy bidder’ and insisted they won the competition fair and square.

‘It’s just a shame that Oz and I do so well and we are here justifying our win a day after the auction, that’s all I am worried about – that a lot of people out there are going to hate, but that’s what happens.’

Omar said tthe pair met with other potential buyers and were surprised that Danny Wallis was interested in their home.

‘We had another bidder who loved our house, a beautiful family. We met the family a few times actually. So at the end of the day, we definitely had the bidders to buy the house.’

‘Very surprising that Danny Wallace jumped on it as well. We had no idea he was gonna bid. So when Danny Wallace loved your house and a few other guys with that kind of wealth that’s when you get a bidding war.’

He also rubbished claims they knew that they knew Portelli beforehand and that he purposely opened the bidding at $4.5million, which was much higher than the $4.08million reserve price.

‘Oz and I got together with our agents a fair bit and they mentioned we had to reach out to all our networking and see who would potentially be able to come to the house and have a look at it,’ he explained.

‘We reached out to a mutual friend (Adrian) who said he might be keen. He’s watched the show. He’s seen our house and he absolutely loved it when he did come and see it a few weeks ago.’

Omar explained that Portelli did in fact check out the other team’s houses but wasn’t interested in bidding.

‘He also saw another couple of houses and unfortunately for the them he wasn’t interested. I’m pretty sure he went to house three or four on auction days.’
