Police believe the man is 54-year-old Marin ‘Max’ Luburic – a Newtown man who told his family he was going for a swim at Maroubra Beach, about 3km south of Coogee Beach, on Saturday.

He was reported missing on Sunday after failing to return home.

Following inquiries, officers found his car parked and locked on Marine Parade in Maroubra just steps from the beach.

The body is yet to be formally identified through an autopsy however police confirmed they were speaking with Mr Luburic’s family.
