Sydney Harbour tunnel closed in BOTH directions causing traffic chaos for those trying to cross the city

  • Hundreds of cars are seen queuing up near Harbour tunnel on Tuesday morning
  • Fault in CCTV system prompted southbound lanes while crash also occurred
  • Motorists urged to use the Harbour Bridge amid warnings of huge delays

The Sydney Harbour Tunnel has been closed in both directions after a crash and a technical issue with the CCTV system – causing huge delays for commuters.

Commuters wanting to cross the city have been urged to use the Harbour Bridge instead as hundreds of cars queue up near the tunnel on Tuesday morning.

At around 11.15am there was a fault with the camera monitoring system, closing the southbound lanes which prompted a two-car crash in the Domain Tunnel – forcing the closure of the northbound entrance.

‘The Sydney Harbour Tunnel is closed in both directions due to a technical fault with the CCTV cameras. Traffic is heavy both directions,’ Live Traffic Sydney tweeted.

While the crash in the Domain Tunnel was cleared shortly after, the harbour tunnel remained closed in both directions.

The tunnel has since reopened but motorists have been told to allow for heavy traffic and long delays.
