Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac hits back at a viewer who accused him of doing ‘very little’: ‘I’d like to know what he does for the rest of the day’

Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac has launched a scathing comeback after being sledged by a viewer in a letter to the editor of the Sunday Mail.

The breakfast TV funnyman responded to a letter published in the Adelaide newspaper that suggested he was being paid by Channel Seven to do ‘very little’.

The letter, signed by Neill from Woodcroft, accused Sam of accepting free meals, accommodation and air fares, then asked pointedly how he fills his days after doing the morning weather.

Sunrise weatherman Sam Mac has launched a scathing comeback after being sledged by a viewer in a letter to the editor of Adelaide’s Sunday Mail

Sam, 40, replied on Instagram: ‘Firstly, I must commend you on your accurate summary of my role as a weatherman, i.e. telling people the weather.

‘Well spotted, sir. You got me.’

He continued: ‘Now, in answer to your question, when I’m not basking in the glory of free accommodation, meals and air fares, I like to spend the rest of the day partaking in my favourite hobbies.’

Sam then listed an unlikely set of pastimes, including stone skipping, Latin dancing, collecting navel fluff, beatboxing, and learning national anthems on the flute.

‘If there’s any time left over, I like to write snide letters to my local newspapers. How about you, Neill? What do you do for the rest of the day? Sincerely, Sam.’

Sam’s Sunrise colleagues couldn’t resist taking a dig at the weatherman on Tuesday.

‘Neill is very perceptive. We get you, Neill,’ co-host David ‘Kochie’ Koch told viewers.

Co-anchor Natalie Barr joined in on the fun, telling Sam: ‘Neill is all of us!’

Sam then suggested that perhaps Kochie had written the letter himself, asking him: ‘Is your pen name Neill?’

The letter, published on Sunday, was headlined ‘Not a cloud in the sky’.

‘I had to smile when Sunrise’s Sam Mac recently said he had fantastic week,’ Neill’s letter began.

‘Well of course he would say that after being in the Hunter Valley all week. But what does he actually do? It seems to me very little, except for giving the weather temperatures and telling viewers it it’s going to be rainy or sunny.

‘Not a bad job: getting paid while enjoying free accommodation, meals, and I presume, airfares. I’d like to know what he does for the rest of the day.’
