‘He didn’t think he was doing any harm!’ Tony Adams risks the wrath of BBC bosses as he breaches advertising rules by wearing his OWN branded clothing range on Strictly

Strictly Come Dancing star Tony Adams has risked the wrath of BBC bosses as he has seemingly broken advertising rules.

The football legend, 56, could potentially land himself in hot water after he was spotted wearing two items from his own clothing collection during Saturday’s live show – a breach of the broadcaster’s strict advertising guidelines.

In a VT ahead of his performance with pro partner Katya Jones, 33, Tony was seen wearing a blue shirt and a white T-shirt from his Tony Adams Collection – which featured a logo featuring his No6 shirt number from his days playing for Arsenal.

And while Tony didn’t purposefully promote the brand during the clip, he still failed to cover up the logo.

A source told The Sun: ‘Tony wasn’t clear on the rules. He didn’t think he was doing any harm.

‘He was just dancing in clothes he feels comfortable in, which just happened to be part of his collection.

‘Strictly bosses are going to have a word with him and ensure he’s in line with their rules for this weekend’s show.’

MailOnline have contacted representatives of Tony and Strictly for comment.

Saturday’s live show saw Tony and Katya land at the bottom of the leaderboard with just 19 points after their Cha Cha to the Grandstand theme tune.

Ahead of the routine, Tony joked that they would receive a ‘grand stand ovation.’

However, his dreams were thwarted when Craig exclaimed: ‘It reminded me of a scene from Death Becomes Her actually, where Meryl Streep falls down the stairs and comes back with her head on the other way around, darling, I’ve never seen anything like that!’

Tony’s routine also left head judge Shirley speechless with his missteps as she added: ‘You are a ray of sunshine, but below the knee it just rains’.

It comes after Tony revealed he held a tense ‘team talk’ with his professional partner Katya before they took to the floor last Saturday.

The footballer admitted that just hours before the live show he became ‘full of fear’ during the dress rehearsal, and worried whether he would be able to perform, before Katya issued him some stern ‘home truths.’

Katya’s strong words paid off as she and Tony earned their highest score to date, with the judges praising their American Smooth as a tribute to those who helped the sportsman during his personal struggles.

Speaking on Tuesday’s episode of It Takes Two, Tony told host Rylan Clark: ‘I was full of fear beforehand. We had a team talk.

‘She [Katya] came into my dressing room after our dress rehearsal and told me a few home truths about me holding back.

‘I think she admits it could have gone either way. I could have thrown my toys out of the pram and gone home.

‘But I fought back the fear and just kind of went for it.’
