Blooming lovely! Sophie Wessex dons colourful floral gown at Royal Windsor Flower Show

The Countess of Wessex cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the Royal Windsor Flower Show as it marked the Queen‘s Platinum Jubilee with garden displays, floral arrangements and a celebration cake.

Sophie, 57, was joined by the Royal Windsor Rose and Horticultural Society (RWRHS) honorary president Alan Titchmarsh at the York Club in Windsor Great Park, as the organisation also celebrated its 130th anniversary.

The mother-of-two opted to wear a navy midi gown for the occasion, which featured a bright and colourful floral print, which she paired with yellow and pink heels. 

She wore her blonde hair neatly, yet casually pinned back, and opted for subtle accessorising with small pearl earrings, gold pendant and two delicate bracelets.

The countess also gave out prizes to the winners of the children’s competition to create ‘a miniature garden fit for a Queen’ flower arrangement, with the best entry to be presented to the Queen to sit on her breakfast table.

Members of the public who attended the event donned a mix of plastic, paper and flower crowns in celebration of the special Jubilee year show.

Alan’s work has previously featured at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Sophie later met with the society’s trustees and was presented with her own posy.

The RWRHS charity was founded by Queen Victoria in 1892, and has enjoyed the support of six monarchs across its history. 

The Countess, along with her husband the Earl of Wessex, had visited Gibraltar earlier this week, where they watched a special Queen’s Birthday Parade near the 19th century British-built barracks in Casemates Square.

Meanwhile Sophie also donned a ‘Rebellious Hope’ T-shirt – which raises money for Dame Deborah’s Bowelbabe fund – as she joined Edward on a visit to the beach.

Dame Deborah, who is receiving end-of-life care for bowel cancer at her parents’ home in Surrey, launched the T-shirt last week in collaboration with e-tailer In The Style.

The Spanish Government had protested against the Wessex’s visit to Gibraltar. 

Madrid still claims the territory as part of Spain and its future border arrangements are currently the subject of talks between Britain and the European Union.

Spanish diplomatic sources said the country’s Foreign Ministry had ‘expressed its unease’ at the visit.

Spain believes ‘is not appropriate’ against the backdrop of ongoing negotiations for Gibraltar’s post-Brexit relations with the Rock.

Meanwhile the Earl and Sophie  had previously been in Windsor for celebrations on the Jubilee weekend itself.

The Earl and Countess of Wessex joined thousands of the Queen‘s neighbours for a huge ‘long lunch’ on the Long Walk outside the gates of Windsor Castle on the final day of the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. 

And earlier this month, Sophie and her husband Prince Edward were in Northern Ireland as part of a series of coordinated visits to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee.
