Simon Cowell has admitted that his headstrong son makes decision for him on his talent shows during his first TV appearance after sparking concern with his ‘unrecognisable’ appearance.

The music mogul, 63, appeared on Wednesday’s episode of Loose Women where he spoke about his son Eric, eight, who he shares with his fiancée Lauren Silverman, 45.

His appearance came soon after he sparked fan concern with his ‘unrecognisable’ appearance at the Royal Variety Performance, which was filmed on December 2 and aired on ITV on Tuesday.

Sweet: The music mogul, 63, appeared on Wednesday’s episode of Loose Women where he spoke about his son Eric, eight, who he shares with his partner Lauren Silverman, 45

He said his son is his ‘own man’ and does not shy away from giving him his opinions on his popular TV talent shows as he confessed that Eric is ‘always right’.

When asked if Eric ever gives Simon advice, he replied: ‘Oh my God yes, non-stop by the way. I have a good idea what he’s going to be when older. He’s got his own opinion and he’s his own man which is really important.’

‘The great thing is when I watch the shows, when they go out I’m looking at Eric thinking does he like something? and he’s normally right,’ he added.

Simon, who previously vowed not to get married or have kids, went on to say that he was ‘late to the party’ with fatherhood but described it as the ‘best thing’ to have happened to him.

Speaking of finding balance in his life, he said: ‘I’m certainly getting there, it’s a good question actually… for sure, where I currently am in my life, my career, being a dad – I was late to the party – so it was the best thing that ever happened to me.’

Simon welcomed his son Eric in 2014 with his fiancée Lauren, 45, who he is set to marry after he left behind his bachelor lifestyle to walk down the aisle.

American socialite Lauren also has son Adam, 16, from her previous relationship with businessman Andrew Silverman.

He previously said he decided to propose to his long-time girlfriend in January after feeling like they were already engaged while living together during lockdown, while he also said he felt it was the right thing for their son Eric.

He told The Sun: ‘I also just couldn’t see myself ever dating anyone again. The idea of going out on a first date now is too weird.’

Despite previously insisting that he ‘didn’t believe’ in marriage, the father-of-one has reassessed his views after falling in love with Lauren.

‘For Eric, as he gets older, he will be asked more and more about his parents, and I thought it was the right thing to do for him,’ he added.

His latest comments come after he sparked fan concern with his ‘unrecognisable’ appearance as he took to the stage at the Royal Variety Performance, which was filmed on December 2 and aired on ITV on Tuesday night.

He left TV viewers distracted by his incredibly smooth visage, that may be the result of cosmetic surgery, with one asking: ‘What’s he done to himself?’.

Simon was introducing BGT winner Axel Blake, however things didn’t go to plan when the X Factor judge accidentally broke the golden buzzer off its stand in an awkward blunder.

The record producer had previously sparked concern by his appearance and, taking to Twitter, one viewer wrote: ‘Just saw Simon Cowell on the Royal Variety show, what has he done to himself?.’

While another added: ‘WTF have you done to your face lad?’ and a third added: ‘Simon Cowell needs to stop having facelifts!’.

Agreeing, a fourth commented: ‘Flicked over during halftime of the football and was that Simon Cowell of George Michael ordered from Wish on stage’.

Another said: ‘Simon Cowell’s had a “little work” done’ and on more joked: ‘What on earth happened to Simon Cowell?’.

Simon’s awkward on-stage blunder occurred when he hit the buzzer ahead of comedian’s Axel’s performance.

The button broke off from the stand into his hands, leaving the star holding it close to his chest.

Simon shrugged at host Lee Mack who laughed awkwardly before carrying on with the show.

He previously sparked concern from fans in a promo video shared to social media on earlier this month.

The TV mogul looked unrecognisable as he sported an incredibly smooth complexion, bright white teeth and enhanced features.

During the video, Simon encouraged people to get in touch in order to audition for Britain’s Got Talent, just days after judge David Walliams quit the show

He said in the short VT: ‘I always say on this show, two or three minutes can change your life. And it has. And maybe this time it’s gonna be you.

‘So please audition now for next year’s season and I look forward to meeting you.’

Simon lost 20lbs over the last two years as he overhauled his lifestyle, keeping to a regular sleep and exercise schedule, after breaking his back in 2020 when he crashed his electric bike near his Malibu home.

He suffered complications from surgery to fuse his vertebrae, which required him to mostly stay in bed for six months.

Simon now walks 40 miles a week and rearranged his work schedule to ensure he only starts business meetings after 9am, rather than holding conferences into the early hours of the morning like he used to.
