Fans were distracted again by Simon’s appearance on Wednesday, with one tweeting during the show: ‘Wtf has happened to Simon Cowell?! I can’t process what I’m looking at?! #ThisMorning.’

‘Errrrmmmmm who is this person pretending to be Simon Cowell??! #ThisMorning,’ agreed another.’

Another pointed out that it was ‘shady’ of This Morning to play a throwback clip of Simon while he was in the studio, tweeting:

‘So shady of #ThisMorning to show footage of what Simon Cowell used to look like while they have him on the couch.’

Simon enjoyed a happy reunion with Dermot, who presented his hit show The X Factor for years, when he arrived in the This Morning studios with Lucy.

Before viewers got to hear more about Simon and Lucy’s new partnership, they were reminded of Simon’s first TV appearance being a judge on This Morning – before The X Factor – when the daytime show was looking for new music talent in 1999.

Simon continued, ‘Great songs are like great paintings, but then Lucy played me this demo called Balance and I always remember where I am when I hear a great song for the first time and it’s the best feeling in the world… and I’m obsessed with this song by the way!

‘And now in my life you have to do something you’re passionate about, and this is something I’m super super passionate about. The song is so relevant to what is going around in the world right now, it’s a great message.’

He also elaborated on whether his ITV show The X Factor will ever return to screens, explaining: ‘One hundred thousand new songs are uploaded everyday at the moment… What would you do differently today?’

‘There’s a lot I’ve learnt to be honest with you. I think it started to become a bit of a machine.’

‘You put a record out that year and you move on, and that’s not the way to do it. And when you throw someone into the limelight, it’s hard, you know? So look, to be continued…’

Following This Morning host Alison Hammond’s excitement and comments on how Dermot was always the best host for that show, Dermot followed up the compliment by suggesting Alison for a potential Britain’s Got Talent host alongside Simon.

Simon laughed, ‘I do love Alison, you know that!’ but refused to say who would be replacing judge David Walliams when the show returns next year.

It was during a BGT promo video shared two weeks ago that Simon sparked concern from fans about his appearance.,

Simon looked unrecognisable with his incredibly smooth complexion, bright white teeth and enhanced features which could have been a result of cosmetic work.

In the video, Simon encouraged people to get in touch to audition for Britain’s Got Talent, just days after judge David Walliams quit the show.

He said in the short VT: ‘I always say on this show, two or three minutes can change your life. And it has. And maybe this time it’s gonna be you.

‘So please audition now for next year’s season and I look forward to meeting you.’

The comments went wild shortly after he posted with fans writing things like: ‘What has happened to his face?’

‘Holy moly, I nearly didn’t recognise him then.’

Simon has famously lost 20Ibs over the past two years  and has been showing off his slimmer physique after overhauling his lifestyle when he broke his back in 2020.

The star suffered the major injury after crashing his electric bike near his Malibu home and now keeps to a regular sleep and exercise schedule.

He suffered complications from surgery to fuse his vertebrae, which required him to mostly stay in bed for six months.

As well as now walking 40 miles a week, The X Factor boss rearranged his work schedule to ensure he only starts business meetings after 9am rather than hold conferences into the early hours of the morning like he previously did.

A source previously told MailOnline: ‘Simon said how he hasn’t worn trainers as much as this in 20 years. He feels fitter than ever before and is keeping to a normal routine rather than being on the phone into the early hours of the morning.
