Sigma Phi Epsilon has shut down its University of Miami chapter after female students complained of having their drinks spiked at a recent pool party where fraternity brothers were filmed chanting about raping and murdering women.

The fraternity, commonly known as SigEp, is known for its hard-partying. On October 1, the fraternity’s University of Miami chapter attended a party at its Coral Gables frat house to celebrate ‘Adult Swim’.

Two young female attendees reported noticing white powder in their drinks. They said they then vomited more than they would normally after a night of drinking, and feared their drinks had been spiked.

Female party goers noticed white powder in their drinks, which they first thought might come from foam and smoke sprayed above the crowd. They then started feeling sick.

At the same party, boys were filmed chanting about raping and murdering women, then raping their corpses.

Student newspaper The Miami Hurricane obtained the video but did not publish it.

It described members chanting about keeping rape victims in ‘wooden boxes’.

Multiple young women who attended the party reported vomiting afterwards.

One, giving her name only as Aby, told the newspaper that she noticed foam in her drink at the party.

She then heard similar accounts from other girls and on student text chains about the same thing.

Hundreds of college students attended the party on October 1. None of those who came forward with allegations have been identified, nor have any of the fraternity boys who sang the chant

A video of the sick chant has now been scrubbed from social media but it made its way to the fraternity’s senior leadership.

In a statement, the fraternity said: ‘The National Headquarters received admissible information that SigEp members violated policy and engaged in actions that are not aligned with the values of this Fraternity.

‘We expect SigEp chapters to provide their members and campus community a safe and supportive environment.

‘That’s the cornerstone of a positive Fraternity and university experience, so we take that expectation seriously and hold our chapters to that standard.’

No sexual assaults or other incidents have been reported from the party.

It is part of a wider trend among fraternities of cracking down on misconduct towards women and girls that for years went ignored.

Many other problematic chapter have also been shuttered for hazing young pledges.
