Shocking moment motorcyclist ploughs down road at 55mph before smashing into three girls

CCTV captured the horrific moment a motorcyclist hit three young schoolgirls while driving nearly double the speed limit in a hit-and-run. 

Oskars Bolsteins, 27, has been jailed after ploughing into the trio while driving 55mph in the 30mph in Southampton on August 1.

Footage showed how Bolsteins was going so fast that when he braked the back wheel of his motorbike came off the ground. 

His white Suzuki GSXR600 bike eventually came to a stop 31 metres up the road, however he fled without leaving his details and shocked witnesses rushed to help the young girls. 

The youngest – who was just 10-years-old – needed reconstructive surgery to a serious cut on her left leg. The other two – both aged 12 – suffered minor injuries. 

Bolsteins was arrested a week later and hit with multiple charges, including causing serious injury by careless driving – a new charge that came into effect this year. 

He was sentenced to nine months in prison and banned from driving for two years.

‘Video footage shows Bolsteins driving at excessive speed, so much so that when he braked to try and avoid hitting the children his rear wheel left the ground,’ a Hampshire Constabulary spokesperson has said.

‘This is the moment a speeding motorcyclist had to brake so hard his back wheel lifted off the ground.

‘In a futile attempt to avoid colliding with three young girls crossing a road.

‘The 10-year-old girl sustained a serious open wound to her left leg, which required reconstructive surgery the follow day, while the other two girls suffered minor injuries.

‘The court heard that Bolsteins got back on his bike and pushed it away from the scene without leaving any details.’

The spokesperson noted how Bolsteins was travelling at ‘approximately 55mph in a 30mph zone’.

Sgt Nicholas Tucker, of the Hampshire Police Roads Policing Unit, said: ‘Driving at almost double the speed limit in such a busy part of the city shows just how reckless Bolstiens was.

‘And this footage shows just how hard he had to brake in his futile attempt to avoid the crash.

‘Bolsteins showed absolutely no regard for those girls who were injured as he got straight back on his bike and left them in the road.

‘Thanks to the bravery of the victims and the help of witnesses who came forward with images and dashcam footage we were able to secure a positive result in court.

‘I hope this case highlights how committed we are to bringing careless drivers to justice on behalf of their victims.’

Bolsteins – who had no licence or insurance at the time of the smash – was arrested and charged with causing serious injury by careless driving, failing to stop after a road traffic collision, driving without insurance and driving without a licence. 

He pleaded guilty to the offences in Southampton Crown Court and sentenced to prison and banned from driving. 

The 27-year-old is among the first in the country to be convicted of causing serious injury by careless driving.
