Shepparton crash: four people killed after car collided with ute

Four people have died after a car collided with a ute near the Victorian rural city of Shepparton.

The crash occurred shortly before 5pm on Wednesday afternoon with the driver of the car being flown to hospital in a serious condition, while the driver of the ute suffered minor injuries.

Traffic has been halted at the site – an intersection in Pine Lodge east of Shepparton – as emergency crews attend the scene. 

The car was knocked off the road and has ended up in a paddock, with Victoria Police confirming four passengers perished.

Detectives are being flown from Melbourne to investigate the scene and determine the cause of the crash.
