Sex Education star Asa Butterfield’s fortune has rocketed by £1million since he filmed the Netflix drama’s third season.

Figures for the 25-year-old’s firm ASA BFB Ltd show he has £500,000 in investments and £100,000 ploughed into a property.

Big earner: Sex Education star Asa Butterfield’s fortune has rocketed by £1 million since he filmed the Netflix drama’s third season

But paperwork for the company, which channels Asa’s earnings from ‘performing arts’, reveals £1.2 million of his fortune is held in cash at the bank.

Despite enjoying an upturn in fame – and indeed fortune – thanks to his starring role in Sex Education, the actor admits life in the public eye has its drawbacks

He told the Evening Standard: ‘Up until Sex Ed [the fame] was all pretty manageable. One of the reasons for that was, because I was working as a kid, and so I would change a lot – a film would come out and then I’d be a foot taller than when I made it.

‘But also, working on a show on Netflix is inherently global and immediate. It really went to a new level, which I probably should have expected. It’s great, but in terms of privacy there have definitely been some downsides.’

Speaking ahead of the season three launch in September 2021, Asa also insisted he’s keen to bow out of the show on a high, rather than outstaying his welcome – a sentiment shared by many of his cast-members.

‘I think we’re all in agreement that nobody wants this show to go on until we’re adults and we’re greying,’ he explained.

‘Season three does end it in a potentially quite nice way. I’d love to do another season but equally I’d be happy to let this character go and move on. Because it has been three years.

‘I’ve spent more time as Otis than I have as any of my other parts. And if [a fourth season] doesn’t happen then that just gives me time to do something else.’

The awkward high school student made a name for himself offering sex advice to students despite not actually engaging in the act himself, since his mother, played by Gillian Anderson, is a well-known sex therapist.

Sex Education’s third season aired in September, and ahead of its release Netflix revealed Otis having a lot of casual sex, despite his declaration of love to Maeve at the end of season two.

A fourth season is now in the pipeline.
