Adam, who took the place of lead singer Freddie Mercury, appeared on stage in front of a row of Palace officials playing drums and began belting out We Will Rock You for their opening number.

It came 20 years after guitarist Brian May performed God Save The Queen on Buckingham Palace’s roof during a show marking the Golden Jubilee in 2002.

During their first number, Brian May incredibly appeared up from behind a golden stage on a huge platform as he rocked the guitar solo while Roger Taylor put on an incredible show behind the drums.

After beginning with a rocking start, they went on to sing Don’t Stop Me Now, getting the crowd clapping and cheering, before going on to belt out We Are The Champions.

And Kate Middleton appeared to be impressed by their amazing performance of Don’t Stop Me Now, as she was seen singing along in the Royal box, where she sat alongside her family.

The Platinum Jubilee concert also saw the likes of Diana Ross, Sir Rod Stewart, Sir Elton John and George Ezra, among other stars, take to the stage to perform.

They are part of a series of major events scheduled for the four-day extravaganza, which began on Thursday with Trooping the Colour and a jaw-dropping 71-aircraft Flypast.

Sam’s appearance at the Jubilee show comes after he gave the United Kingdom its best result at the Eurovision Song Contest in two decades when he finished in second place in Turin with a score of 466 points.

TikTok star Sam – who shot to fame with his lockdown covers on the video-sharing platform – changed the UK’s run of bad luck after scoring nil points for the past two years.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson congratulated Sam after Eurovision, tweeting: ‘Incredibly proud of Sam Ryder and how he brilliantly represented the UK tonight.’

Despite the UK’s success, it was Ukraine’s Kalush Orchestra who took home the crown after moving viewers with their poignant performance of Stefania amid the war in the country.

The group – made up of rapper Oleh Psiuk, Ihor Didenchuk, Vlad Kurochka, Tymofii Muzychuk and Oleksandr Slobodianyk – wowed with their performance, which merged rap with folk and featured breakdancing, flutes and bold ensembles.

After taking to the stage, they thanked everyone for supporting their country amid Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
