On Thursday it was announced that De Niro’s Goodfellas co-star has died in his sleep in the Dominican Republic – where he had been filming a new movie.

The legendary gangster actor passed away on the Caribbean island halfway through recording Dangerous Waters, about a sailing holiday spiraling out of control.

De Niro has not yet made a public statement regarding Liotta’s passing.

Liotta was perhaps best known for his incredible performance in Martin Scorsese’s 1990 classic Goodfellas, where he played Henry Hill while De Niro took on the role of Jimmy Conway.
