Rebel Wilson reveals her miscarriage heartbreak before welcoming daughter Royce via surrogate – as star explains how she selected a sperm donor

Rebel Wilson welcomed her first child, baby girl Royce Lillian, via surrogate in November alongside her partner Ramona Agruma.

Now the Pitch Perfect star, 42, has revealed that Royce was not the first surrogacy attempt she went through.

Speaking to The Pick Up with Britt, Laura and Mitch on Wednesday, the Australian actor said her first surrogacy ended with a tragic miscarriage.

‘I tried with one surrogate to have the baby, and sadly the embryo miscarried,’ she said.

‘I’d only been dating Ramona for two months and I had to be like, ‘By the way, the surrogate looks like it’s out of the first trimester and it is serious and I am going to have a baby by the end of the year.’

Rebel also shared details of how she chose a sperm donor for her child.

She explained how at the ‘sperm shop’ she was given access to pictures of potential donors when they were children and as adults, as well as their genetic history.

Rebel said she also listened to voice recordings from the donors, adding that it was ‘really interesting to hear how they answered certain questions.’

‘I had like a sperm concierge, so they trawl through all the sperm shops and then give me the 10 best that match my criteria.’

It comes after Rebel defended her decision to go out partying just a week after her daughter was born.

The Bridesmaids star and her partner sparked controversy when they attended two celebrity parties a week after welcoming Royce to the world: one for Leonardo DiCaprio’s birthday and the other for Paris Hilton’s wedding anniversary.

Rebel said she didn’t appreciate being ‘mum-shamed’ at the time, and doesn’t believe new fathers face the same level of scrutiny.

‘It was only a week until I got mum-shamed,’ she told her friends Brittany Hockley and Laura Byrne on the Life Uncut podcast.

‘I was shocked at the criticism because Chris Hemsworth goes to the gym, and people aren’t yelling, “Where’s your kids?” But why do they do it to every woman?’

Rebel admitted she did debate going out so soon after her daughter was born, but said her nanny encouraged her to do it.

The Senior Year actress said women shouldn’t be shaming other women for how they parent their children.
