Rebecca Gibney updates fans on her beloved mother Shirley following horrific fall that broke her back

Rebecca Gibney has given her followers an update on her beloved mother Shirley’s health after she had a terrifying fall that broke her back.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the Packed to The Rafters star, 58, said her mother is still in hospital after falling a few weeks ago, but luckily she is making progress every day.

Sharing a photo of Shirley in a hospital gown at The Prince Charles Hospital in Brisbane, she wrote: ‘Shirl update. She’s still in hospital but making progress every day.

‘The nurses and staff are being amazing with her and she’s getting up and moving around.

‘A wee way to go but so much better than she was. Thank you for all the well wishes,’ Rebecca continued.

Two weeks ago, the New Zealand born actress told her over 200,000 Instagram followers that ‘Mama Shirl’ had a horrifying fall and fractured her back.

‘Mum is a trooper but along with all the issues she has – the next little while is going to be challenging so we ask that you hold her in your collective hearts as you always do,’ she said.

‘We so appreciate the support. Thanks.’

This comes after Shirley was in the Prince Charles Hospital last December to fix a valve in her heart.

At the time, Rebecca shared a photo of her mother in the hospital bed after her operation.

She captioned the photo: ‘So far, it’s all going super well but she is very tired and it may be a bit of a slow recovery.’

She thanked Dr Haris Haggani and other medical professionals for their level of care.

‘He is officially Mum’s other son who has gone above and beyond,’ she said.

Born in Levin, New Zealand, Rebecca is the youngest of six children and is very close to her mother.

She often shares their close relationship online and her fans have come to know Shirley through the heartfelt photos and videos.
