A radio DJ has gone viral after claiming middle-aged men who date women in their 20s are emotionally immature and should be in therapy.

Gary Thompson, from Tulsa, Oklahoma, shared his thoughts on age-gap romances and why men his age are often drawn to much-younger partners on TikTok earlier this month.

‘I’m not gonna make friends with a lot of guys who are 45-50 years old [who are dating women in their 20s] right now with this TikTok,’ he admitted.

Gary Thompson, a radio DJ from Tulsa, Oklahoma, shared his thoughts on why middle-aged men like himself date women who are in their 20s in a now-viral TikTok video

Thompson believes middle-aged men like himself date women who are in their 20s because they have the same level of emotional maturity.

‘There’s nothing wrong with her being emotionally 25 if she is 25,’ he explained, ‘but there’s a real problem with me being emotionally 25 if I’m 45.’

He noted that these men often have nice cars and established jobs, which make them seem like a ‘safe place’ for a younger woman who is looking for a partner who will ‘treat her maturely and fairly.’

He advised middle-aged men to quit dating women in their 20s and start going to therapy

'Actually become that emotionally secure, emotionally available man,' he said

‘Actually become that emotionally secure, emotionally available man,’ he said

‘So she gets into the relationship with the guy who’s 45 thinking he’s going to treat her differently than that guy who’s 23 years old — nope,’ he said. ‘It’s a bait and switch, and it hurts worse than being hurt by a 23-year-old.’

Thompson theorized that many of these men haven’t healed their emotional wounds from when they came out of their first real relationships in their 20s.

‘Here’s to stopping using women who are in their 20s as emotional scratching posts, guys. Quit dating those women. Get into therapy. Actually become that emotionally secure, emotionally available man,’ he advised.

‘And then, if you still want to date somebody who’s 25, you can do that and actually give emotionally what you’re advertising with the silver in your beard. Or just date somebody your own age.’

The video has received thousands of comments, and many women who have dated older men have agreed with with his assessment

Thompson’s video has been viewed more than 484,000 times and has received thousands of comments. A number of women who dated older men in the past insisted his assessment was spot-on.

‘I dated men in their 40s my entire 20s. Nothing to show for it but horror stories,’ one woman shared.

‘Always dated older men and was always disappointed [because] I expected a level of maturity that was never there,’ someone else recalled.

‘Preach brother!! You are spot on! Those younger relationship[s] don’t last. As soon as she matures beyond him she’s gone!’ another pointed out.

And one viewer jokingly asked, ‘Is this video for Leonardo DiCaprio?’
