Bomb squad officers have been called to the scene of a crash in Melbourne after police uncovered a firearm and a ‘possibly suspicious item’ in a vehicle.
The specialist unit, dressed head-to-toe in protective gear, arrived atĀ Racecourse Road in Flemington at aboutĀ 12.30pm after a whiteĀ Range Rover smashed into a pole.
The Bomb Response Unit inspected the unknown object and aĀ 30-year-old Taylors Hill man was arrested and is assisting police.
A bomb robot was brought in to examine the mystery item with Victorian Police deeming it ‘safe and non-suspicious’.

At around 12.30pm this afternoon a Range Rover crashed into a pole on Racecourse Road, Flemington.Ā A 30-year-old Taylors Hill man was arrested and is assisting police
Police have closed Racecourse Road in both directions with drivers being advised to avoid the area.Ā
The road is expected to be reopened shortly.Ā
Anyone with information, dashcam vision or who witnessed the collision is urged to contact police.
