Prince Harry’s People cover mocked by social media users

Prince Harry’s upcoming People magazine cover is being mercilessly mocked by social media users – who accused the outlet of ‘photoshopping’ his bushy hair, bright blue eyes, and full beard.

The Duke of Sussex, 38, posed for the cover of the magazine’s January 23 issue, while promoting his brand new memoir, Spare – his latest in a slew of press appearances over the last few weeks in which he has continuously slammed his family members, shared intimate details on his life as a royal, and made a series of bombshell accusations about the monarchy.

And while Harry’s explosive interview with People comes as no shock amid his continued tirade against the royals, his cover shoot left many people on the web raising their eyebrows.

The publication shared a sneak peek of the cover via Twitter this morning, and many people on the web quickly started to ridicule the way that Harry looked on it.

Some even theorized that he might have been wearing a ‘wig’ – while pointing out that he’s been seen with much thinner hair in the past. He is seen in September 2021

On the front of the magazine, a tanned Harry could be seen smirking towards the camera in a button-down blue shirt. 

But his sun-kissed skin, exceptionally vivid eyes, and extraordinarily long hair left many social media users wondering if the cover had been edited.

Some even theorized that he might have been wearing a ‘wig’ or ‘hair plugs’ – while pointing out that he’s been seen with much thinner hair in the past.

‘Aw how considerate, they photoshopped more hair on his head,’ joked one person.

Another added: ‘Y’all should get an award for the amount of photoshop that went into this pic.’

Someone else simply tweeted, ‘Barf,’ while a fourth user said, ‘Great work in graphics department. He totally looks like a man who’s not bald in the middle.’

‘Is it in his contracts that the hair must be photoshopped?’ asked a different person. 

‘The photoshop,’ wrote someone else with a skull emoji, while another user quipped, ‘How many hair plugs is he wearing in his pic? And who does he think he’s fooling?’

‘Does he wear a wig?’ read another tweet.

A different user added: ‘This man is full of hate, resentfulness, lies, victimhood, narcissism, etc.’

Someone else even made a joke about claims made by Harry in his book that his older brother, Prince William, ripped one of his necklaces off during a physical altercation over his wife, Meghan Markle.

Harry wrote that his older brother called the former actress ‘difficult,’ ‘rude,’ and ‘abrasive,’ before things turned physical.

‘He grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor,’ he said.

‘I landed on the dog’s bowl, which cracked under my back, the pieces cutting into me.’

‘See, his broken necklace is back,’ joked one Twitter user is response to People’s new cover.

On the other hand, some people gushed about how ‘good’ Harry looked in the shoot.

‘Dashing,’ read one supportive tweet, while another said, ‘OK, Harry looks like a snack.’

‘Handsome prince,’ wrote a different user.

The Prince showed ‘noticeably’ thinner hair when he stepped out in New York City days later, and celebrity hairstylist Tom Smith told DailyMail.com that he believed the Time photos had been edited, however, he added it was also possible that the California sun had made his hair lighter.

‘In certain lights he does look as though he is thinning on top, and this most certainly may be the case considering his hair genes,’ the expert added. Harry is seen in May 2019

‘It seems to look like Prince Harry’s hair is fuller in the TIME picture and it would not surprise me if clever retouching skills helped play a part in defining his hair line and given him a fuller body of hair to match Meghan’s,’ he said.

‘In certain lights he does look as though he is thinning on top, and this most certainly may be the case considering his hair genes.

‘However, as a natural redhead, his hair will be far more susceptible to lightening in the sun.

‘With their new life on the west coast of the United States, there is no shortage of sunny weather and so the lighter, and therefore thinner appearance of the top of his hair, could be down to the Californian sun lightening the top of his hair more than we are used to seeing. 

‘Although there is a noticeable difference at first glance when you compare today’s appearance to his TIME magazine photoshoot.’

However, pictures show Harry’s hair looking thinner as early as 2018 – long before he moved to California.

Harry and Meghan, 41, have been in the media quite a lot in recent weeks. The couple first released a tell-all six-part Netflix docuseries last month, in which they chronicled their love story – as well as their decision to leave the monarchy and relinquish their royal duties to move to America full time in 2020.

In addition, Harry’s memoir, Spare, dropped on January 10, and it was filled with a series of shocking admissions, including that he did cocaine as a teen, killed 25 Taliban fighters during his time in the military, and that it was his brother, Prince William, 40, and his wife, Kate Middleton, 41, who encouraged him to wear his infamous Nazi costume to a party in 2005.

In the latest sit-down with People, the father-of-two defended Spare, calling it ‘a continuation of his mental health journey’ and explaining that he hopes ‘sharing his experience’ can make a ‘positive difference in someone’s life.’

‘This book and its truths are in many ways a continuation of my own mental health journey,’ he explained.

‘It’s a raw account of my life – the good, the bad and everything in between. My hope has been to turn my pain into purpose, so if sharing my experience makes a positive difference in someone’s life, well, I can’t think of anything more rewarding than that.

‘While I know much of my life may seem unrelatable, I do think most siblings can relate to struggling with comparisons, and my brother and I are no exception.’

He concluded: ‘I have a beautiful and blessed life – one that comes with a platform, and with it responsibility that Meghan and I plan to use wisely.

‘I feel I am exactly where I am meant to be and exactly where we [my family] are meant to be. I don’t think I could have written this book otherwise.’
