Russian regions close to Ukraine were hit by a new wave of blasts early today as Ukraine continued to fight back against Vladimir Putin‘s invasion.

An ammunition depot in Belgorod region was reportedly ablaze.

Suspected attacks from a more assertive Ukraine were also seen in Voronezh and Kursk regions.

In Kursk, there were unconfirmed reports that Russian air defenses had downed Ukrainian military drones.

Belgorod is a region of around 1.5 million people, just north of Ukraine’s second city, Kharkiv.

Explosions were heard in the cities of Kursk and Oboyan.

Locals heard the military planes flying over Oboyan.

On the same morning as the Belgorod incident, the Russian news agency TASS reported on ‘two loud bangs’ in the city of Voronezh.’

The agency reported that the Russian military air defenses were scrambled in the area in order to defend the Baltimor military airfield.

The neighborhood where the bangs were heard, Shilovo, is located close to the Baltimor base.

The base is over 180 miles from the Ukrainian border. On Monday, two Russian fuel depots in the city of Bryansk were also hit by suspected Ukrainian fire.

Several explosions were heard in Belgorod early in the morning, April 27. Ammunition depot burns near the village of Staraya Nelidovka.

A blaze at Staraya Nelidovka in Belgorod region was reported extinguished by 6:30 a.m. local time.

The attack comes less than 24 hours after U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin convened a meeting Tuesday of officials from about 40 countries at the U.S. air base at Ramstein, Germany.

‘We´ve got to move at the speed of war,’ Austin said regarding moving more and heavier weapons to the Ukrainian capital.

Those statements were to be echoed by UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss in a statement on April 27. Truss will call on Ukraine’s allies to ‘ramp up’ and ‘double down’ on military production, reports The Guardian.

Shortly after news of the Belgorod ammunition depot attack emerged, the Ministry of Defense in the United Kingdom issued an intelligence briefing declaring that, ‘Ukraine retains control over the majority of its airspace. Russia has failed to effectively destroy the Ukrainian Air Force or suppress Ukrainian air defenses.’
