A New York private chef has lifted the lid on what it’s like to work for a wealthy family in the Hamptons, revealing she spends nearly 17-hours a day preparing meals and grocery shopping.

Meredith Hayden, who is known as @wishbonekitchen on social media, went viral on TikTok this week after giving an hour-by-hour account of her typical workday as a live-in chef, which starts at 6:45 a.m. and doesn’t end until close to midnight.

‘Cute little 17 hour work day,’ the 26-year-old captioned the footage, explaining that she is ‘technically on call’ when she is staying with the family, but they ‘always discuss a rough schedule for the meals beforehand.’

The chef prepared shakshuka — a dish of eggs poached in a sauce of tomatoes —and chocolate coconut overnight oats.

After she served breakfast at 9:30 a.m., she started prepping lunch by chopping vegetables and marinating a skirt steak in lemongrass and fish sauce.

Hayden said she had to change into shorts because she ‘got really hot standing over the grill.’ She paired the steak and veggies with rice noodles, and a fish dipping sauce.

She made enough for herself and sat down with the family to eat when lunch was ready at 1 p.m. After she was done, she reviewed her menus for the rest of the weekend and headed to Citarella Gourmet Market for some more grocery shopping.

At 5 p.m., Hayden made a charcuterie board for the family to snack on while she started dinner for the evening.

On this particular day, she grilled zucchini and lamb chops and topped the latter with a mint pistachio pesto. They were served along with a summer rice salad and spicy tomato shrimp at 8:30 p.m.

Hayden once again sat down and ate with the family. They had pie for dessert, but she noted that she didn’t make it.

She cleaned the kitchen from about 10 p.m. to 10:45 p.m. and then took a quick body shower — but after 16 hours, her day still wasn’t over yet.

‘When do you have free time to do anything???’ one person asked, while another added, ‘I hope you’re being compensated really well. That’s a lot of work.’

‘YOU CLEAN IT ALL TOO. That would be my breaking point. And you shop for them,’ someone else noted. ‘Wow.’

Others couldn’t get over the privileged lives her wealthy clients lead, with one person commenting, ‘The ultra rich are really living completely different lives than us huh.’

‘People eat this well for every meal?’ another asked. ‘I am currently eating cookies for dinner.’

‘This is why people shouldn’t feel bad that they can’t work take care of kids and cook and clean,’ someone else pointed out. ‘This alone is a full time job!’

Commenters continued to ask about her grueling schedule, and she later returned to TikTok to explain that she only works for the family in the Hamptons part-time in the summer.

‘I’ve come here to set the record straight. Yes, I get days off. That was my Saturday schedule,’ she said of her day-in-the-life video. ‘I do that on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, June through September, plus extra days for holidays and stuff.

‘During the week, I’ll go back to the city, take some time to rest, spend some time working on my website developing new recipes,’ she added.

Hayden, who filmed the video at her parents’ home in New Jersey, also clapped back at the commenters who were appalled by her morning Diet Coke habit.

‘A lot of you guys are really pressed about the Diet Coke for breakfast. Number one, relax, Number two, I’m actually a Diet Dr Pepper girl,’ she said. ‘Please don’t tell me it’s unhealthy because I literally don’t care.’
