The Scott Street hitmaker penned lyrics for SZA’s newly released track Ghost in the Machine in recent weeks and features on the song, which came out earlier this month.

Her verse on the track sees Phoebe sing about ‘screaming’ at someone in the Ludlow hotel in Manhattan, New York, and ‘standing on my own’ in a hotel lobby.

Although she does not reference any names, she has sparked speculation that she is hinting at her reported split from Paul with the powerful lyrics.

She sings: ‘You said all of my friends are on my payroll / You’re not wrong, you’re an a–hole / Screaming at you in the Ludlow / I was yours for free.’

‘I don’t get existential / I just think about myself and look where that got me / Standin’ on my own in an airport bar or hotel lobby / Waiting to feel clean / That’s so f**king boring.’

Phoebe recently told NME that she had penned the lyrics in recent weeks after SZA messaged her on Instagram and asked her to contribute to the track.

She said: ‘It all happened so fast. I wasn’t really used to that in the pop world, because vinyl isn’t so much of a consideration until way later, it’s just like, ‘Do you want to be on this record? Okay, it’s out next week’, which I really like. I like that turnaround time.’

It comes after Phoebe this week sparked dating rumours with Bo Burnham, who she has been friends with since 2021.

The pair fuelled romance rumours as they attended Kate Berlant’s one-woman-show on Monday.

While sitting next to each other in the audience at Connelly Theater in New York City, the filmmaker, 32, reportedly gave Phoebe ‘his undivided and doting attention’.

An insider at Jezebel revealed that the chemistry between them ‘felt flirtatious’ and that Burnham seemed to be ‘trying to impress her’.

The comedian, who was directing the show, stepped on stage to assist with some technical difficulties that led to the performance getting cancelled.

Their latest sighting comes amid reports that they have been spotted ‘making out’ and ‘canoodling’ around Los Angeles, following her shock split from Paul Mescal, according to the Deux U podcast.

Phoebe and Paul, known for his starring role on Normal People, sparked engagement rumors earlier this year before reportedly calling it quits.

They first went Instagram official with their relationship last December, with a very loved-up image of the two of them, soon after making their first red carpet appearance at LACMA Art+Film Gala.

The couple were first romantically linked to one another after a source told The Sun that they spent a weekend together in August 2020.

The insider shared: ‘Paul invited pals and they played wild drinking games. They’re both smitten. His membership on the celeb dating site Raya is a smokescreen to cover up that they’re secretly an item.’

Paul previously opened up about his romance, telling GQ magazine: ‘To have someone to lean on through such a mad, mad time has been invaluable. Really, I don’t know where I’d be without her.’

Meanwhile, Phoebe told NME magazine in May she thought Paul was a ‘cute boy’ after becoming a fan of his after watching Normal People.

She went on to follow him on Instagram, with the actor quickly returning the favour.

‘I got a little pitter-patter in my heart when I saw’, she gushed.
