Kelly Brook has admitted she was ‘unhappy’ in her 20s and felt like she could finally ‘breathe’ after turning 40.

The model, 43, who was formerly a Page Three girl, confessed she was ‘very self-obsessed’ in her younger years but now her anxiety has ‘gone’.

She said on the Vicky Pattison: The Secret To podcast: ‘You’ve got to look at your life in a holistic way and I think there was a long time when I was very career driven, very focused on myself and very self-obsessed.

‘Not to say that that wasn’t a good thing but it did make other parts of my life suffer and ultimately, it made me unhappy.

‘I think that plays a huge part in your health and your lifestyle and how you feel about yourself. I look back on pictures of when I was like younger and I’m like, “She was really unhappy.”

She added that she no longer feels the need to ‘always be on a diet’, and doesn’t need to ‘prove’ herself to anybody.

Kelly said: ‘I think that anxiety has gone which I’m so grateful for. You get into your 40s your like, “Ugh I can breathe. I don’t feel need to prove myself or people please anymore.”

‘Between 40 and 50, this is an amazing time where you can just own our body, love your body, feel good in your body.

‘You know you don’t have to be a size 0, but you can still feel fit and healthy and still be desirable to your husband but not always be on a diet.’

Kelly recently begged ITV bosses to let her host the reported middle aged Love Island spin-off.

The TV star first fronted the original Love Island series – then called Celebrity Love Island – back in 2005 alongside Patrick Kielty, with famous contestants including Callum Best and Liz McClarnon.

And now 18 years later, Kelly insisted she must take the helm once more, remarking that ‘I’ve got to do it!’ seeing as she’s ‘vintage Love Island’.

Amid the recent news that ITV are looking singletons over 40 for the new show The Romance Retreat, Kelly expressed her interest in rejoining the Love Island family during her Heart FM radio show with co-star JK (Jason King).

She said: ‘I’ve got to do it. I’m sorry but I’m vintage Love Island. I did the first series. Hello?!

‘I just want to put my hand up for that job if they’re looking for a host. I still can’t present very well, but it doesn’t matter.’

Kelly – who last year married long-term partner Jeremy Parisi – went on to say that a top TV producer originally ‘pitched’ the idea to her and that she was ‘at the seed’ of the the hugely popular dating series from the very start.

She explained: ‘She showed me a map of what Love Island was going to look like and she pitched the whole idea.

‘I was there at the seed of it. I was a consultant producer on the first series of Love Island!’

And while she had her own happy ending in her stunning Italian ceremony, Kelly told how she’s been calling for a series for older contestants for years as people can find love no matter their age.

She shared: ‘You don’t just give up looking for love just because you’re over 25, you can find love at any age.’

It comes after ITV1 announced their new show that is similar to the ever-popular Love Island.

In an official call out, the network is looking to cast ‘vibrant single parents from across the UK who are in search of love’.

The show will be called The Romance Retreat and will see contestants stay at a luxurious villa in a bid to find love.

It seems the show is very similar to it’s Love Island concept, however it remains unclear if winners of The Romance Retreat will win a cash prize at the end of the series.

In recent weeks, fans have been saying they wanted a ‘middle-aged Love Island spin off’.

Exciting: 'This is the ONLY dating show where single parents can search for love, by spending time in a luxury retreat, where all the parents have been nominated by their grown up children,' the casting announcement reads
