A female off-duty NYPD officer has been stabbed to death in the Bronx allegedly by her estranged husband, who then turned himself in.
The 31-year-old woman was found unconscious and unresponsive with multiple stab wounds to her body at around 2:50am on Monday.
The stabbing took place inside a residential apartment on Grand Concourse in the Bronx, New York, allegedly after a domestic dispute.
The officer’s 34-year-old husband is said to have then turned himself in to the 44th precinct.
The couple was estranged, but have never been reported to local authorities before.
‘The identity of the deceased is pending proper family notification,’ the NYPD told DailyMail.com in a statement.
Later in the day, the force tweeted: ‘Today, we mourn. Our hearts are heavy as we investigate the tragic murder of an NYPD officer who was off-duty last night in the Bronx. We’re here for her loved ones, her fellow cops — and to ensure the person responsible is brought to justice.’

The suspect reportedly doesn’t have a criminal history and shares a child who is allegedly living out-ot-state with relatives, according to NBC.
A possible motive for the stabbing hasn’t been made clear.
A press conference held by the NYPD over the incident is expected to take place later on Monday.
