New Year’s Eve horror as the body of a woman in her 20s is found in a Melbourne car park

A young woman has been found dead under a busy city overpass following New Year’s Eve celebrations.

The grim discovery was found in a car park under Melbourne‘s Kings Way overpass at Southbank near the corner of Moray Street and City Road around 4.30am on Sunday.

The woman is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be aged in her 20s.

Police have launched a crime scene and have spent Sunday morning scouring the scene for clues.

Mystery surrounds the woman’s death but it’s understood to not being treated as a homicide.

‘The circumstances surrounding the death are yet to be determined and investigations are ongoing,’ a spokesperson said.

Police will prepare a statement for the coroner. 

The woman’s body was believed to have found next to a red car, the Herald Sun reported.

It was a busy New Year’s Eve for Victoria Police with 49 arrests across the state.

Nineteen were arrested for being drunk in a public place, 10 for assault/affray/robberies while another eight were detained for weapons offences.
