Madeleine West has revealed that she has been struggling with a secret health battle.  

The former Neighbours star tells this week’s issue of Stellar Magazine that she developed a severe septic infection while cleaning up flood-ravaged Byron Bay earlier this year, where she had come into contact with E.coli-contaminated mud.

However a trip to the doctor revealed that a wound from a recent breast surgery to remove a lump had become infected. 

It was more bad new safter Madeleine underwent surgery to remove a precancerous lump from her breast in July, which she called ‘ugly enough and fast-growing enough to be a concern’.

‘It t’s easy to get lost in fear. But I had a determination that this, too, will pass and just got straight into the mechanics of how to fix it,’ she said of the experience.

Elsewhere in the interview, the star said she won’t be returning to Neighbours for a last hurrah. 

The show ceases production in June after 37 years on the air, after being axed, with final episodes airing in September. 

Madeleine played Dee Bliss on the soap opera between 2000 and 2003 before her character was killed off on the day of her wedding to Toadfish Rebecchi, played by Ryan Moloney.

‘I like the idea that I’m forever going to be remembered as the girl who married Toadie, then died on her wedding day,’ she said.

However she adds that the end of Neighbours is, ‘really tragic… Neighbours will always have a place in our hearts.’   

Madeleine shocked her fans in February when she revealed that she’d been hospitalised for a mystery operation.

Speaking about the operation in a lengthy Instagram post, Madeleine insisted that she was ‘fine’ but admitted that the whole process had scared her. 

‘It was inconvenient, scary, but necessary, one of those ailments many women and some men will face, and with the right care will overcome,’ she shared. 

The soap star separated from her partner, chef Shannon Bennett, 46, in 2018. They share six children: Phoenix, Hendrix, Xascha, Xanthe, Xahlia and Margaux.
