Three people are critically injured after yellow cab jumps a curb and crashes into pedestrians in New York City

  • Multiple people were struck when a taxi cab jumped a curb Monday afternoon
  • It happened just before 1 p.m. at 1186 Broadway near 29th Street
  • Three people were transported to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition 
  • The cab driver remained at the scene with non life-threatening injuries

At least four people were injured, three critically, when a taxi jumped a curb and struck several pedestrians in Manhattan on Monday.

It happened just before 1 p.m. at 1186 Broadway between West 28th and 29th streets in the Flatiron District. 

Police say the taxi SUV was traveling southbound on Broadway when it jumped the curb, striking several people before crashing into a building.

Three people were transported to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. 

The driver of the taxi cab remained at the scene with non life-threatening injuries.

Video and photos from the scene show the taxi on the sidewalk and several of the plant barriers damaged. 

The Emergency Management department advised people to expect traffic delays, road closures and emergency personnel in the area of Broadway and West 29th Street. Drivers should find an alternate route. 

Authorities have not released additional details. It is not yet known what led up to the crash.
