HBO‘s hit teen drama series Euphoria came away as the big winner at the 2022 MTV Movie Awards, taking home four awards.
The hit series won Best Show, Best Performance in a Show (Zendaya), Best Fight (Cassie vs Maddy) and Here For the Hookup.
Other big winners included Spider-Man: No Way Home, which took home Best Movie and Best Performance In a Movie (Tom Holland) and Loki, which also won Best Team and Breakthrough Performance for Sophia Di Martino.

Host Vanessa Hudgens introduced Generation Award recipient Jennifer Lopez, ahead of a video package of her films.
‘Thank you. Thank you. I love you so much. You know, I look at those movies and I see all the wonderful people that I’ve been blessed to know and to work with. You’re only as good as the people that you work with and if you’re lucky they make you better. And I have been very lucky in that regard,’ she said.
‘As an actor I am not any of the women that I played but there is a part that is deeply true to me and each one of characters, and since you cannot create truth unless you really lived it, I have a different kind of list of thank yous tonight,’ she added.
‘I want to thank all the people who gave me this life. I want to thank the people who gave me joy and the ones who broke my heart, the ones who were true and the ones who lied to me. I want to thank true love and I want to thank the way that I lied to myself because that was how I knew I had to grow. I want to think disappointment and failure for teaching need to be strong and my children for teaching me to love,’ she said as the crowd raucously applauded.
‘I want to thank all the people who told me to my face or when I wasn’t in the room that I couldn’t do this. I really don’t think I could have done it without you,’ she added to more applause.
‘And I know I couldn’t have done it without the fans who have seen the movies,’ she added, pointing at the fans in the crowd.
‘You are the reason that I am here. And I want to thank, I don’t usually do this very much but some of you who know me know this person, so I want to take this moment to do this. I want to thank Benny Medina. He doesn’t like me to talk about him. He likes to be I background,’ she said of her manager.
‘If there is one person who believed in me from the beginning, from the first time I played him a raggedy little demo of a song that I wrote that day, he never let me stop believing in myself. You know when someone is at your side, you know when they’re there when you’re at your lowest and most hopeless point, you will never forget it and you never want to let them down? And there were times I think I kept on going more for you than for myself and I love you,’ she said of Medina.
She apologized for getting ’emotional,’ and added it was, ‘an honor to be able to connect with audiences, and because of all of you I will continue to hold onto that honor as long as I am around. I love you.’
She also thanked everyone at MTV for, making such an amazing platform for all artists, especially me,’ before speaking to boyfriend Ben Affleck and their kids.
‘And to Ben and everyone at home, wait for me to have dinner. I’ll be home by seven!’ she concluded.
Zendaya took home the award for Best Performance in a Show, beating out Amanda Seyfried (The Dropout), Kelly Reilly (Yellowstone) Lily James (Pam & Tommy) and Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria).
While she wasn’t able to accept the award in person, she did send along a video message for the fans.
‘Hello, MTV Movie Awards. Thank you so, so, so much for this honor. Thank you so all the fans have shown so much love to Euphoria, it means the world to the cast and crew, the show mean so much to us and we really, really, really are so honored that it means so much to you so thank you for your love and thank you for this award,’ she said, adding, ‘I wish I could be there in person’ before blowing a kiss to the audience.
Lightyear star Chris Evans presented the award for Best Movie, which was won by Spider-Man: No Way Home, beating out Dune, Scream, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the 10 Rings, The Adam Project and The Batman.
Star Tom Holland delivered a video message for fans, stating, ‘I just wanted to say a massive thank you to all the fans around the world who voted for Spider-Man: No Way Home and voted for me.’
‘To be a part of that film, to show that film with you, to be in solidarity is honestly a dream come true. So thank you so much for making that happen and on behalf of everyone at Sony and everyone at marvel, our heartfelt thanks, and I’ll see you soo,’ Holland said.
Zendaya also delivered a video message, stating, ‘Thank you so much and on behalf of the Spider-Man: No Way Home family it we want to thank all the incredible fans who showed up and supported this film.
‘I know it meant so much to all of you, it’s been such an incredible journey for all of us so thank you for allowing us to bring these characters to life and for all the love that you bring to them,’ she added.
Hacks stars Hannah Einbinder and Megan Stalter presented the Most Frightened Performance, which was won by Scream’s Jenna Ortega.
She beat out Kyle Richards (Halloween Kills), Mia Goth (X), Millicent Simmonds (A Quiet Place Part II) and Sadie Sink (Fear Street: Part Two 1978).
‘Thank you. This is actually very, very sweet. Thank you to MTV, of course, and anybody who voted,’ she began.
‘Most important, my incredible cast and crew who truly are some of the most delightful people I’ve ever met,’ she added.
‘You guys made running from a serial killer and screaming buddy murder so much fun and I can’t wait to do it again,’ she concluded.
Bros star and writer Billy Eichner presented Best Comedic Performance, which was won by Ryan Reynolds for Free Guy.
While Reynolds wasn’t there, he enlisted Jackass star Steve-O to do his acceptance video for him, though it was revealed that Reynolds was standing right behind him.
‘I’m accepting this award on Ryan Reynolds behalf because sadly, he wasn’t just unable to appear in person, he can’t even do his video acceptance speech. But he would like to thank Shawn Levy Jodie Comer, Lil Rel Howrey, Joe Keery,’ though when he screwed up a name, Reynolds corrected him.
‘And Free Guy was a very personal picture for Ryan, so it’s super meaningful for him to have his hard work recognized by the MTV Movie Awards. Anything else?’ Steve-O asked Reynolds.
‘I’ve always wanted you to kick me in the balls,’ Reynolds said, though Steve-O said, ‘Ryan, grow up, bro. We’re good,’ though Ryan added, ‘You forgot taika waititi. Thank you,’ as Steve-O apparently kicked him in the balls.
The Best Musical Moment Award went to Dance With Me from Heartstopper, beating out We Don’t Talk About Bruno from Encanto.
Tom Holland was also awarded Best Performance In a Movie over Lady Gaga (House of Gucci), Robert Pattinson (The Batman), Sandra Bullock (The Lost City) and Timothée Chalamet (Dune).
Scarlett Johansson was also named Best Hero for Black Widow over Daniel Craig (No Time to Die), Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight), Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) and Tom Holland (Spider-Man: No Way Home).
Euphoria won Here For the Hookup over Never Have I Ever, Pam & Tommy, Sex/Life and Sex Lives of College Girls.
The final award of the show – Best Show – went to Euphoria, which beat out Inventing Anna, Loki, Squid Game, Ted Lasso and Yellowstone.
Sydney Sweeney accepted the award, stating, ‘Thank you guys, on behalf of everyone at Euphoria. We are so appreciative of everyone’s love and support. Thank you Sam Levenson, thank you HBO, thank you to the entire cast and crew who worked so hard and tirelessly, thank you.’
‘Love you guys, too, but without you this would not be possible so thank you for loving characters that might be hard to love sometimes because we do this for you and we love you and thank you,’ she concluded.
Host Vanessa Hudgens then tossed the mic to Tayshia Adams, who hosts the Unscripted portion of the program in the final hour.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills stars presented the Best Reality Return, which was won by Paris Hilton for Cooking With Paris and Paris in Love.
She beat out Bethenny Frankel (The Big Shot With Bethenny), Kylie Sonique Love (RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars) Sher (Sex On the Beach) and Tami Roman (The Real Housewives Homecoming, Los Angeles).
‘Thank you so much to my mom Kathy, my aunt Kyle, and all of the beautiful ladies on the stage. I am so honored to be up here right now to receive the award for two shows that I love so much and have had such an amazing time filming,’ Hilton began.
‘At the beginning of 2020, I saw myself cooking my sliving lasagna in my kitchen for fun and posted on YouTube and that’s how “Cooking with Paris” was born,’ she added.
‘Netflix came on board soon after and brought it to life with all of my amazing friends and family cooking alongside of me. We had so much fun. It was definitely living,’ she added.
‘And of course I could not be happier to take my fans on this incredible journey with “Paris in love” on peacock over the last year. I’ve love sharing my wedding story with all of you and I am so grateful to my husband Carter and my family for all of their love and support,’ she added.
‘I feel like the luckiest girl in the world getting to share my life in all different sides of myself with you over the years. Nick Viall and Tami Roman presented Best New Unscripted Series, which went to The D’Amelio Show, beating out Hart to Heart, Teen Mom: Family Reunion, The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip and Queen of the Universe.
Marc D’Amelio said, ‘Thank you so much for this incredible honor, when we move to L.A. As a family and agreed to do the show, we never imagined we would be standing on a stage like this accepting this incredible award.’
Heidi D’Amelio added, ‘There are so people that make The D’amelio show a success, and we are thankful to everyone at hulu and our awesome production staff that spent so much time with us this past year.
Charli D’Amelio added, ‘Thank you, mtv, and for all of the people who watch and voted and welcomed us into your homes, we really love sharing all of that and we have learned and are so grateful for you. The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon beat out The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, The Drew Barrymore Show, The Kelly Clarkson Show and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert
Fallon said in a taped speech, ‘On behalf of everyone here at “The tonight show,” thank you, mtv and everyone who voted for us. I want to thank all of the other nominees, Stephen Colbert, Kelly Clarkson, Trevor Noah — who am I forgetting? Did I say Trevor Noah? Congrats on the nomination, yeah, that’s about it,’ he said, as Drew Barrymore walked past him as Fallon added, ‘Trevor Noah and — Drew Barrymore, yes, Drew Barrymore!’
RuPaul’s Drag Race won Best Competition Series, beating out American Idol, Dancing with the Stars, The Challenge: Spies, Lies & Allies and The Masked Singer.
RuPaul said in a video speech, ‘Thank you all so much! And as you know, it takes a village, people! And I am blessed to work with the most amazing cast and crew in show business, and we could not do the show without the love and support of VH1 and my family at World of Wonder. Last but not least, I want to thank our queens who bravely share their stories to help spread love, light, and laughter around the world. My queen, this award belongs to you.’
A number of the drag queens took to the stage, adding, ‘Yes! Thank you, Mama Ru and thank you all so much, we are honored to be here tonight for the best competition series on behalf of all of our season 14 sisters!’
