One is believed to be the maintenance man, who was working on the heater inside the home when it exploded, according to 14 News.

Resident Diaghman Gibson, who was not home during the explosion, said he ‘woke up to the smell of gas.’

‘Something told me to leave,’ he told 14 News. ‘So I got up and got ready, talked to the maintenance man, told him I was leaving and to lock up whenever they were done.’

Neighbors said they did smell natural gas in the area and it could still be smelled after the explosion.

Center Point and Duke Energy were seen digging holes into the ground on the scene, according to 14 News.

Photos posted online by next-door neighbor Mackenzie Vincent showed the burnt inside of the roof that lay in a crumpled heap in between their houses.

The rest of the house remained standing and Vincent’s home only had ‘cosmetic damage.’

‘I was at work, and my sister called me and told me that the house next to mine was in flames,’ Vincent told 14 News. ‘So, I just ran here to get my dogs out. So we’re all squished in the car.’

Despite Vincent escaping unscathed, home resident Tesia Crumbaugh, who was at work when the explosion happened, said she lost precious memories, including the ashes of deceased family members.

‘We’ve lost a couple of loved ones over the years, and the stuff that is non-replaceable was up there, so that’s hitting pretty hard,’ she told 14 News.

Residents have been moved to the Salvation Army for housing.
