Michelle Yeoh will be entering the universe of The Witcher as she stars in the new prequel series Blood Origin.

The 60-year-old acting icon, who is experiencing a career renaissance in English-language media after her roles in Crazy Rich Asians and Everything Everywhere All At Once, takes the lead role in the prequel show as Scian, who is described as a sword–elf.

She leads the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Netflix four-part limited series, which was released on Thursday, just under two weeks after it was announced that Liam Hemsworth would be replacing original star Henry Cavill in the main Witcher series.

The show’s synopsis says that the show features Scian embarking on a quest to retrieve a magical blade that has been stolen.

The series is set 1,200 years before the quests of Geralt (Cavill/Hemsworth) featured in the original show, which has been a popular property for Netflix, and it reveals the origin of the very first Witcher.

Yeoh makes her appearance at the start of the trailer in a green dress and robe, and she sports the standard pointy ears used to depict elves.

She has unnaturally green eyes and has an array of tattooed figures decorating her face.

Scian is the last of a tribe of sword-bearing elves who sets out to find the stolen blade after it is taken from them.

She’s introduced as she whips her sword around dramatically in a barren valley, while a woman’s somber singing soundtracks her choreography.

Little is explained about the plot, but a tragedy appears to have occurred, as Éile (Sophia Brown) is seen crying while standing next to a roaring fire.

Both she and Scian are then seen on quests with others following them.

Laurence O’Fuarain, who plays Fjall, is introduced in a hallucinatory shot of him gazing into the camera amid a fire and battle, before he hacks another person to pieces.
