‘It was the first time someone saw the sacrifice’: Meghan Markle claims plane crew thanked her for service to the UK on flight back to Canada in bombshell Netflix documentary

Meghan Markle has revealed that a member of the plane crew on board her flight back to Canada from the UK thanked her for her royal service.

In March 2020, the Duchess of Sussex, 41, completed her final engagement as a senior working royal when she attended the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey.

Shortly afterwards, the mother-of-two boarded a flight back to Canada to be reunited with her son Archie while Prince Harry remained in the UK to finalise the details of Megxit with the Royal Family.

In the fifth episode of the couple’s new Netflix series, the Duchess claims a member of the airport cabin crew took the opportunity to thank her for her work as a royal.

After settling into her seat, Meghan claims the head of the plane crew knelt down next to her and gave her some encouraging words.

She explained: ‘He took his hat off and I just remember looking at him.

‘And he goes, “We appreciate everything you did for our country.”‘

Discussing the emotional impact it had on her, Meghan continued: ‘It was the first time that I felt like someone saw the sacrifice.

‘Not for my own country, for this country. It’s not mine.’

When she landed in Canada, Meghan claims she ‘collapsed’ into the arms of one of her and Harry’s security guards.

The Duchess said: ‘I was like, “I tried so hard!” And he was like, “I know you did. I know you did Ma’am. I know you did.'”

As she reflected on that moment, Meghan fought back tears and added: ‘And that’s the piece that’s so triggering because it still wasn’t good enough and you still don’t fit in.’

The first three episodes of Harry & Meghan – part of the Sussexes’ multi-million-dollar deal with Netflix – were streamed last week, with the final three hour-long episodes streaming from today.

The show has become the streaming giant’s most-watched documentary in a premier week, debuting with 81.55 million hours viewed.

The initial tranche covered the couple’s courtship and romance, but many were left deeply unhappy about the programme’s full-on assault on the late Queen’s Commonwealth legacy, with some saying it seemed as if the couple want to ‘bring down the monarchy’.

Harry also made various digs at his family, particularly his father and brother, including the suggestion that they had married not for love but to a woman who fitted ‘the mould’.

The duke also said members of his family questioned why Meghan needed more protection from the media than their wives had been given, but that they failed to grasp the ‘race element’.

The claims made in the trailer yesterday were quickly declared by royal experts as ‘nonsense’, while one commentator said the series was clearly a ‘form of revenge’.

In one clip, Meghan’s British privacy lawyer Jenny Afia insisted she had seen evidence of the conspiracy against the Duchess before Lucy Fraser – real name Lucy Meadmore – a former PR manager who was a mystery figure until a week ago, says ‘Meg became this scapegoat for the Palace’.

The Duchess herself also suggested she was made a scapegoat, adding: ‘You would see it play out. A story about someone in the family would pop up for a minute, and they’d go: ‘We’ve got to make that go away’.’
