Demonstrating their fondness for designer apparel, the mother-daughter duo charmingly matched one another in Burberry wraps.

As Christmas Eve progressed Mariah was glimpsed heading off on a solo outing to the Aspen outpost of Gucci for a few more goodies.

Mariah’s spot of retail therapy came the day CBS re-aired her concert special Merry Christmas To All! filmed at Madison Square Garden last week.

She posted an Instagram snap of her and Monroe proudly holding up their Prada haul and plugged in the caption: ‘Merry Christmas Eve! Little shopping spree before we watch the special tonight on CBS!’

The concert first aired on television at 8pm this past Tuesday, and fans who missed it then can watch it now on Paramount+.

Until recently Mariah was facing down a $20 million copyright lawsuit brought by a writer called Andy Stone who claimed her seasonal classic All I Want For Christmas Is You was ‘derivative’ of a song he wrote in 1989.

His song was also called All I Want For Christmas Is You, and although the music and lyrics are different he felt he should have the rights to the name.

However Mariah can breathe a sigh of relief as the plaintiff filed to dismiss his suit in November, according to court documents seen by Rolling Stone.

Mariah, who according to legend once had a concert rider stipulating she ‘doesn’t do stairs,’ is enjoying a respite from a characteristically packed holiday season.

Last month saw the publication of The Christmas Princess, a children’s book she co-wrote with Michaela Angela Davis, who also worked on Mariah’s memoir.

This month she brought her annual Christmas concerts first to the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto and then to New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Along with numbers from her two Christmas albums, Mariah included some items ‘I’ve never performed live before,’ she dished to USA Today.

She hoped to ensure the performances are ‘as magical as possible,’ citing the affection she feels from her fans, whom she has taken to calling her ‘lambs.’

‘Oftentimes as a child, or even throughout earlier parts of my career, I did not feel loved,’ she confessed. ‘I certainly never felt unconditional love and that’s what I have with my fans: that connection. So I’m extremely excited.’

Further in the future, she and her old Precious director Lee Daniels are collaborating on a TV movie based on her 2020 memoir The Meaning Of Mariah Carey.

When it comes to finding the right actress to play her, Mariah said: ‘I don’t think it’s about “cast the girl who sings the Mariah Carey style,” whatever that is.’

What she wants is ‘a great actress with a somewhat similar look and just making sure the acting is there. Because we have the music – they can sing along to it.’

Mariah, who is currently involved with her erstwhile backup dancer Bryan Tanaka, has tailored her home life around Christmas as well.

‘When I’m not on stage and I’m in holiday mode, there are rules that I set. I don’t care who it is – the kids, if I have guests, whatever – nobody is allowed to play or watch anything other than a Christmas-related thing,’ she said.

‘If I wake up in the middle of the night and walk into the living room, and the music isn’t playing and the lights aren’t on, I just can’t handle it.’
