Horror as armed man is shot dead after he walked into a police station and threatened officers

A knifeman has been shot and killed after walking into a police station and threatening officers. 

The man threatened police after walking into Auburn Police Station, in western Sydney, at 12.08am on Tuesday.  

He was then shot before officers performed first aid on him until paramedics arrived on scene.

The man was taken to Westmead Hospital but died a short time later. 

The man is yet to be formally identified.

It is believed he was the same man who stabbed a 28-year-old man five minutes earlier at Auburn Railway Station. Neither man is known to one another.

The younger man was treated by paramedics at Auburn Railway Station before he was taken to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition.

A critical incident team comprised of officers from State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the discharge of a police firearm.

That investigation will be subject to independent review.
