Former First Daughter Malia Obama enjoyed an early dinner with friends in Santa Monica on Saturday as she continues to embrace her new life on the West Coast.

The 23-year-old, who is a writer on Donald Glover’s upcoming Amazon project, ‘Hive,’ was spotted with a group of her pals at Manchego, a cozy Spanish tapas restaurant located just blocks from the Pacific Ocean.

Malia was the epitome of California cool in a fitted red tank that she wore tucked into high-waisted black shorts. To keep from getting a chill, she threw on a long-sleeve maroon shrug.

She topped off her casual outfit with a silver chain necklace, an orange handbag slung over her shoulder, and black hiking boots that were paired with white ankle socks.

Malia didn’t appear to have on any makeup for the outing, and her long rust-colored hair was braided and flowed down her back in loose waves

She and her friends were seated outside, in front of the restaurant, as they chatted and ate tapas. The table was filled with glasses, some of which appeared to be filled with red sangria.

Malia was later seen leaving the restaurant with her keys and her cellphone in her hand. She had a bright smile on her face, and at one point, she was photographed walking with her arm around one of her pals.

It was a busy weekend in Los Angeles for the screenwriter, who was also seen dining with friends on Friday at Crossroads Kitchen, an upscale vegan restaurant in West Hollywood.

Malia moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career as a screenwriter after scoring a lucrative position working on Glover’s upcoming show.

In March, he shared that he had given Malia her first post-college job as a writer on his new Amazon series, gushing that she is ‘amazingly talented’ and ‘really focused.’

The multihyphenate, who is also known by his stage name Childish Gambino, was at the season three premiere of ‘Atlanta’ when he opened up about he recruited the Harvard University graduate to work in the writers’ room on his latest project.

‘She’s just like, an amazingly talented person,’ Glover, 38, told Vanity Fair of Malia. ‘She’s really focused, and she’s working really hard.’

The actor is writing and executive producing the upcoming Amazon series — potentially titled ‘Hive’ — that is reportedly about ‘a Beyoncé-type character.’

Glover did not reveal how Malia — who interned on Lena Dunham’s HBO series ‘Girls’ in 2015 and at The Weinstein Company in 2017 — landed the job after she graduated from college last year.

His younger brother Stephen Glover is also working on the upcoming Amazon project, and he said they were interested in ‘hearing her stories and having her work with them,’ which suggests they may have approached her about the position.

Glover said he believes Malia has a promising future in the industry, telling the publication, ‘I feel like she’s just somebody who’s gonna have really good things coming soon.’

‘Her writing style is great,’ he added.

Malia also earned praise from Stephan, who commended her work ethic and ideas, saying they are happy to have her on the team because of her perspective.

‘Donald always says perspective is important, and people with different perspectives are important for a writers’ room. And for sure, she definitely has a unique perspective on everything,’ the ‘Atlanta’ co-writer and executive producer told Vanity Fair.

‘So we wanted to hear her stories and have her work with us. Listening to her stories and having her involved really gave us a lot of good ideas.’

When asked how he goes about rejecting Malia’s pitches, he made it clear that she isn’t getting any kind of special treatment in the writers’ room because of who her parents are.

‘Well, you know, we just hurt her feelings. We can’t be easy on her just because she’s the [former] president’s daughter,’ Stephan joked.

‘Nah, she’s very down to earth, and cool. So, it’s not a problem at all,’ he added. ‘She has a lot of good ideas. She’s great. She’s just a regular person like everybody else.’

Glover didn’t address whether Malia is joined by bodyguards when she is at work, but he did describe her days in the writers’ room as being like a therapy session.

‘We just talk about how we are feeling and what’s going on in our own lives, and so our work and all the shows we do becomes very personal in that way,’ he said. ‘And at the same time, it’s very fun. We are talking about everything and being honest about things, and getting all kinds of ideas out.’

While Malia is working as a screenwriter, her younger sister, Sasha Obama, is building her own life in Los Angeles.

Sasha, who will turn 21 on June 10, is reportedly a student at the University of Southern California after transferring from the University of Michigan.

DailyMail.com exclusively revealed a few months ago that she is in a relationship with Clifton Powell Jr., 24, the son of ‘Ray’ actor Clifton Powell.

Powell and Sasha are understood to have met after she relocated to the West Coast, and he is already close with the family. He was seen hanging out with Malia in a Los Angeles park in April.

That same month, Sasha and Malia’s mother, former First Lady Michelle Obama, opened up about how they are all grown up during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

DeGeneres, 64, reminded Mrs. Obama, 58, of how Sasha and Malia had first visited the program as little girls who wanted to see the Jonas Brothers. But over a decade later, they’ve graduated from boybands to boyfriends.

‘Now they’re bringing grown men home,’ she said. ‘Now they have boyfriends and real lives and all that stuff. They have grown up right before our very eyes and they are doing well.’

While Mrs. Obama gushed about the ‘amazing young women’ her daughters have become — ‘Women, I know! Scary,’ she said — and divulged that they are dating, she was much more discreet about the details of their love lives.

Sasha has been linked to Clifton in recent months, but Malia’s relationship status is unclear following her move to Los Angeles.

She started dating Rory Farquharson — the son of chief executive of Insight Investment Management Limited Charles, and his wife, Catherine, an accountant — in 2017 while they were both students at Harvard University.

However, whether she and Rory are still together is unknown, as she has never publicly addressed her relationship status.
