The 23-year-old, who is currently working on Donald Glover’s upcoming Amazon project, Hive, appeared somber as she made her way into the coffee joint after visiting a beauty parlor.

Her long locks were in braids around her face, as she clutched onto her keys and wallet. She purchases two drinks at the Starbucks – an iced coffee and a hot one – but it’s unclear who the second beverage was for as she was alone for the outing.

Malia moved to Los Angeles after graduating from Harvard to pursue a career as a screenwriter. In March, Donald shared that he had given Malia her first job as a writer on his new series, which is reportedly about ‘a Beyoncé-type character,’ calling her ‘amazingly talented’ and ‘really focused.’

‘She’s just like, an amazingly talented person,’ Donald, 38, who is also known by his stage name Childish Gambino, told Vanity Fair of Malia. ‘She’s really focused, and she’s working really hard.’

Donald did not reveal how Malia – who previously interned on Lena Dunham’s HBO series Girls in 2015 and at The Weinstein Company in 2017 – landed the job after she graduated from college last year.

Donald added that he believed that Malia has a promising future in the industry, telling the publication, ‘I feel like she’s just somebody who’s gonna have really good things coming soon. Her writing style is great.’

Malia also earned praise from Donald’s younger brother, Stephan Glover, who is also working on the show. He commended her work ethic and ideas, and added that they are happy to have her on the team because of her ‘different’ and ‘unique’ perspective.

‘Donald always says perspective is important, and people with different perspectives are important for a writers’ room,’ he gushed. ‘And for sure, she definitely has a unique perspective on everything.

‘So we wanted to hear her stories and have her work with us. Listening to her stories and having her involved really gave us a lot of good ideas.’

When asked how he goes about rejecting Malia’s pitches, he made it clear that she isn’t getting any kind of special treatment in the writers’ room because of who her parents are.

‘Well, you know, we just hurt her feelings. We can’t be easy on her just because she’s the [former] president’s daughter,’ he joked.

‘Nah, she’s very down to earth, and cool. So, it’s not a problem at all,’ he added. ‘She has a lot of good ideas. She’s great. She’s just a regular person like everybody else.’

While Malia is working as a screenwriter, her younger sister, Sasha Obama, is building her own life in Los Angeles.

Sasha, who recently turned 21, is reportedly a student at the University of Southern California after transferring from the University of Michigan.

DailyMail.com exclusively revealed a few months ago that she is in a relationship with Clifton Powell Jr., 24, the son of ‘Ray’ actor Clifton Powell.

Clifton Jr. and Sasha are understood to have met after she relocated to the West Coast, and he is already close with the family.

He was seen hanging out with Malia in a Los Angeles park in April. That same month, Sasha and Malia’s mother, former First Lady Michelle Obama, opened up about how both of her daughters are all grown up during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

Ellen, 64, reminded Michelle, 58, of how Sasha and Malia had first visited the show when they were little girls who wanted to see the Jonas Brothers. But over a decade later, they’ve graduated from boybands to boyfriends.

‘Now they’re bringing grown men home,’ she said. ‘Now they have boyfriends and real lives and all that stuff. They have grown up right before our very eyes and they are doing well.’

While Michelle gushed about the ‘amazing young women’ her daughters have become – ‘Women, I know! Scary,’ she said – and divulged that they were dating, she was much more discreet about the details of their love lives.

Sasha has been linked to Clifton in recent months, but Malia’s relationship status is unclear following her move to Los Angeles.

She started dating Rory Farquharson – the son of chief executive of Insight Investment Management Limited Charles – in 2017 while they were both students at Harvard University.

However, whether she and Rory are still together is unknown, as she has never publicly addressed her relationship status.
