Thought you were meant to be a CEO? Clueless Married At First Sight groom Layton leaves his wife Melinda dumbfounded after attempting to light a candle using a toaster and then sticking a KNIFE in the appliance

Despite portraying himself as a highly intelligent CEO on Married At First Sight, Layton Mills had a not-so-smart moment on the show that left his wife Melinda Millis dumbfounded.

On Tuesday night’s show, the 35-year-old attempted to light a candle using a toaster, which he ended up branding ‘toastie-gate’.

Explaining how he planned to get the candle lit with the toaster, he said: ‘I was trying to light a candle and we don’t have any lighters here.

‘So I thought it would be a good idea to get some paper and then light the toaster, and then try to light the paper on the toaster, and then try to light the candle from the paper which would have caught flame from the toaster.

‘That didn’t go as planned.’

After the paper fell into the toaster, he then attempted to get it out with a knife- which can be very dangerous.

The camera then showed his new wife Melinda looking dumbfounded at the toaster he placed outside due to it bellowing smoke.

‘A knife in the toaster? Wow,’ she said to her husband, to which he replied: ‘It just smells a little bit burnt.’

Melinda later told producers: ‘I think for a very intelligent man, he can sometimes be… very unintelligent.

‘Sometimes I’m like, “What am I doing” and I definitely look at him and think, “What are you doing?” and “How are we running companies?”‘

Layton then joked that Melinda could’ve woken up to ‘an electrocuted husband’ and that they need to put a lighter on their grocery list.

The couple didn’t get off to a good start in the experiment as on their wedding day Melinda bashed her husbands looks.

The Brisbane beautician said he was ‘punching just a little’ as she is a 9.5 on a bad day, and if he came up on a dating app she would’ve swiped left.
