A QFES told Daily Mail Australia the luxury boat was ‘still smouldering’ as firefighters continued there attempts to put out the flames shortly before 3pm.

‘The fire was well involved when the emergency crew arrived on scene,’ the QFES spokesperson said.

‘Crew began using a submersible pump to fight the fire but the boat is taking on water and looks like it will eventually sink.’

The fire has reportedly been contained to the superyacht with no present concerns of it spreading to neighbouring boats, despite smoke and heat damage affecting some vessels.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

Hamilton Island is a luxury holiday destination off the coast of Queensland near Airlie Beach.
