Luann de Lesseps confirms she’s sober again and that she’s ‘lost weight’ as an added perk

Luann de Lesseps came clean about her drinking, confessing that she’s now living the sober life, which ended up having a few added perks.

During an interview on SiriusXM’s Jeff Lewis Live on Thursday, The Real Housewives Of New York City star talked about some of the shame that led to her decision to stop drinking.

She also revealed that she’s now ‘happier’ and ‘healthier’, and has lost weight as a result of her cutting alcohol out of her diet.

de Lesseps, 57, first got sober after she assaulted a police officer in 2017, and then a few months later revealed she had lost eight pounds after getting clean. 

But she would have a relapse this past March that led to one of her regrettable scenarios where she got kicked out of a gay piano bar for her drunken antics, according to Page Six.

The reality star would apologize for the incident, which she said confirmed to herself that her ‘struggles with alcohol are real.’

During the sit-down with Lewis, De Lesseps maintained she is sober again, while also laying out some of those added benefits that includes another weight loss.

‘You spend a lot less on Ubers, you don’t have to apologize the next day for something you did, you don’t wind up, like me, on Page Six, because you, you know, screwed up somewhere,’ she said. 

‘You know alcohol has gotten me into a lot of trouble, and I just got to a point in my life where I am able to have a good time without drinking.’

The Connecticut native went on to share some more perks attributed her latest stint with sobriety.

‘It’s just become a lifestyle for me that is just so much better. I’m happier. I’m healthier and I lost weight,’ the mother of two admitted, which prompted Lewis to compliment her healthier appearance. ‘You look great and you look amazing.’

She continued, ‘I lost weight and I don’t have to think about or count my drinks anymore. It used to be that “if I’ve had two drinks I can’t have a third. And then I have to drive and think how an I going to get home, and before I knew it I was dancing at five o’clock in the morning at a nightclub.’

The Connecticut native and socialite went on to reveal that she’s a ‘happy drunk,’ while some others, ‘not naming names’, can get ‘really angry’ when they drink.

It’s at this point that she shared that her main problem with alcohol is that she doesn’t ‘know when to switch it off. The party just keeps on continuing.’

‘I’ve been forgiven a couple times for my faux pas, let’s put it that way,’ she concluded. ‘And I just feel like I don’t wanna ask anymore for forgiveness. I don’t wanna be in that position anymore. I don’t wanna feel that shame and blame the next day. It’s just not worth it.’

Starting in March 2008, de Lesseps has appeared in all 13 seasons of Bravo’s The Real Housewives Of New York City.
