Former Love Island couple Liam Llewellyn and Gemma Owen have more in common than they realise in terms of coming from sporty families – as Liam’s dad has been revealed as a Welsh rugby hero.
David Llewelyn – or Dai as he’s known to friends – is a former Wales International Rugby Union player who now trains up professional athletes including new boxing champ Joe Cordina.
Gemma, 19, – who’s father is famous footballer Michael Owen – and Liam, 22, enjoyed a brief pairing and were coupled up for the first two days until she was stolen by Italian hunk Davide, 27.

Welsh personal trainer and masters student Liam, from Newport in South Wales, took after his dad by moving into the fitness profession, but viewers on Love Island have no idea of his sporting family’s credentials.
David Stephen ‘Dai’ Llewellyn, 51, played his club rugby for Ebbw Vale, Newport and Neath and was part of the Wales squad for the 1999 World Cup where he scored a try.
Llewellyn won four caps for Wales between 1998 and 1999.
He featured a further twelve times on the bench for his country, played in the last Five Nations tournament and made one appearance in the 1999 Rugby World Cup as a replacement against Japan.

Maintaining his fitness, he now works as a personal trainer at Fitness First Cardiff East.
Liam’s grandfather Pancho was also sporty, and with a natural talent for boxing and rugby and like Liam’s original Love Island pairing Gemma, the daughter of ex footballer Michael, was heavily into horses and showed Welsh cobs when his dad was younger.
Liam’s dad is still very much in the mix when it comes to Welsh sporting achievements and following Joe Cordina’s Super featherweight boxing victory three days ago, Liam’s dad wrote online: ‘Great see @JoeCordina_91 champion of the world.
‘One of my youngest ever clients . I new he would be great as he had that mindset as a teenager. So proud of you joe and your mother and dad will be so proud too! #championoftheworld #joecordina #boxing #champ.’

Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean actor Steve Speirs also told Liam’s dad he was supporting him on Twitter after he revealed his son was taking part in the ITV 2 Dating show.
Tuesday night’s Love Island ended with plenty of drama as Italian hunk Davide Sanclimenti opted to couple up with Gemma in the first recoupling of the series.
Davide’s decision left Gemma’s partner Liam single and vulnerable, with the Masters student at risk of being dumped from the villa.
Meanwhile, the tense episode revealed that two brand new girls – Afia Tonkmor and Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu – were heading into the villa, with the public able to vote on which two boys will head on a date with them.

The bombshell contestant held the power after it was revealed 24 hours previously that he had to chose one of the girls to pair up with, despite the girls already being in couples with the others lads.
After spending the day getting to know the girls, the evening saw decision time for business owner Davide as he had to chose which girl to steal from one of the other boys.
Speaking in front of the firepit, he explained that his decision had not been an easy one as he had just 24 hours to get to know the other girls.
He then added: ‘It’s not just attraction, yes she’s a stunning girl. We really had a good time and I would like to know her more. The girl I would like to couple up with is… Gemma.’

As Michael Owen’s daughter made her way over to her new partner, Liam looked visibly gutted as he could only sit by and watch.
But his misery continued as he then received a text which confirmed his single status and revealed that anyone not in a couple by the end of the week is at risk of being dumped from the villa.
Meanwhile, viewers were quick to take to Twitter to share their thoughts on Davide choosing Gemma to couple up with.
Oh dear: Davide’s decision left Gemma’s partner Liam single and vulnerable, with the Masters student at risk of being dumped from the villa
One viewer tweeted: ‘Gemma and Davide have to be the least compatible couple I’ve ever seen….’
With another sharing: ‘Nothing happened this episode just wasted one hour of my time just to see Davide get with Gemma which was pretty obvs from the beginning. Boringgg.’
The opening scenes saw Gemma made her intentions clear with Davide as she told him that she didn’t like to be second best.
