Lionel Messi is the star of a new mural in Buenos Aires less than a week after he lifted the World Cup with Argentina.
The Argentines edged past France on penalties last Sunday to win their first World Cup in 36 years, and it hasn’t taken long for the moment to captured by artist Maximiliano Bagnasco.
Done in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires, the mural features Messi front and center lifting the trophy during post-game celebrations with goalie Emi Martinez behind him.

Paulo Dybala and Rodrigo de Paul are also featured in the impressive painting.
‘It’s my way of saying thank you. It is also a gift for people. Football for the Argentine people is always a joy, and allows us to better overcome difficult moments,’ Bagnasco said according to AS.
‘We saw Argentina united with millions of people in the streets… We are world champions!’Â
Various other murals of Messi had been spotted in Argentina during the tournament.Â
Bagnasco said he started the mural shortly after the conclusion of the final, where Messi scored two goals and later converted his penalty in the shootout.

And while France’s Kylian Mbappe – who scored a hat trick in the final – finished with eight goals and beat Messi to the Golden Boot, it was Messi who was awarded with the Golden Ball as the tournament’s most outstanding player.
The PSG playmaker scored seven goals and set up a further three at the tournament as he captured the tournament which had previously eluded him.
Incredibly, he also scored at every stage of the tournament as Argentina recovered from a shock opening-match loss to Saudi Arabia.

The result of the final spurned wild celebrations in the streets.
During the team’s victory parade, players had to be evacuated by helicopter as fans threw projectiles and tried to jump onto the team bus.
Four million people poured into the streets during the parade, which was expected to last around eight hours but was cut short.
