‘We gave you guys guns, and you should have used them’: Lindsey Graham called for cops to KILL January 6 rioters as they stormed the US Capitol, book reveals

  • Ex-DC and Capitol cop Michael Fanone said Graham spoke to him in May 2021
  • Both men were in a meeting involving Republican support for an investigation into the January 6 insurrection
  • Fanone told Graham that Capitol law enforcement officials have to abide by certain rules preventing them from using assault weapons in certain situations
  • Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn and the family of Brian Sicknick, who was a cop killed a day after last year’s riots, were also present during the meeting
  • The conversation occurred just four months after the Capitol was under attack

Republican Senator Lindsey Graham once told an ex-Capitol police officer who was badly injured in the January 6 insurrection that he should have used his gun to shoot Trump supporters who were rioting in the head, a new memoir reveals.

Michael Fanone, who used to work for the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia from 2001 until 2021, said the South Carolina politician offered his two cents on the situation when they first met in May 2021 – four months after the attack.

‘You guys should have shot them all in the head,’ recalled Fanone in his memoir ‘Hold the Line: The Insurrection and One Cop’s Battle for America’s Soul,’ which is set for publication on October 11. ‘We gave you guys guns, and you should have used them. I don’t understand why that didn’t happen.’

The former police officer then told Graham that law enforcement officials employed at the Capitol have to abide certain rules preventing them from using weapons of deadly force on crowds.

Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn and the family of Brian Sicknick, who was a cop killed a day after last year’s riots, were also present during the meeting.

Fanone, who had suffered a heart attack and a traumatic brain injury after being stun-gunned and beaten up with a flagpole several times during the attack, said the meeting took place at a time when he was seeking Republican support for a bill calling for an independent investigation into the January 6 revolt.

Republican senators ended up blocking the bill, which would have ruled in favor for an independent panel to lead the case.

Fanone has since quit the force and is now an on-air contributor for CNN.

However, at the time, the former cop also secretly taped a meeting with House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy.

He said the California GOP member tried to downplay the Capitol riots, which he then called ‘not just shocking but disgraceful,’ Politico reported.

Fanone, who calls himself a ‘lifelong Republican’ told Rolling Stone last week that McCarthy was a ‘f***ing weasel b****’ in an explosive interview.

McCarthy has not offered to return comment.

Meanwhile, a DC judge sentenced a rioter who assaulted Fanone to seven years behind bars on Wednesday.

Kayle Young, who was described by Judge Amy Berman Jackson as a ‘one man wrecking ball’ on January 6, was handed one of the harshest and longest sentences compared to other arrestees from the last year’s riots.

Fanone was formerly a supporter of Donald Trump and voted for him in the 2016 United States presidential election.
