Letitia Wright stuns in a quirky dress with dramatic fluted sleeves as she scoops the award for Best Joint Lead Performance at the 25th British Independent Film Awards

Letitia Wright stunned as she walked the red carpet at the British Independent Film Awards at Old Billingsgate in London on Sunday.

The actress, 29, looked incredible in a quirky dress for the star-studded event where she scooped the award for Best Joint Lead Performance for her role in The Silent Twins. 

Her sensational dress featured dramatic fluted sleeves and a structured blazer that nipped in at her tiny waist before falling to the floor in pleated layers.

The Silent Twins is based on the remarkable true story of June and Jennifer Gibbons, real-life identical twins who would only communicate with each other. 

Letitia, of Marvel’s Black Panther series, plays June, alongside Tamara Lawrance (Prince Harry’s revolutionary girlfriend in the TV adaptation of King Charles III) as Jennifer.

The duo took home the joint award for their portrayal of the twins who were sentenced to Broadmoor Hospital, where they ultimately stayed for 11 years due to their inability to speak, after committing a series of petty crimes.

The film is based on the 1986 book of the same name by British journalist Marjorie Wallace.

The Silent Twins was shown at the Cannes Film Festival in May and described by Screen Daily as ‘a wilfully challenging, sometimes abrasive drama’.

It will go on release in the UK later this year.

Agnieszka Smoczynska, the film’s Polish director, says adapting the story for the screen was very moving: the heart of their story was ‘the clash of their two worlds.

‘Reality, juxtaposed against their imagination; full of colour and full of energy’.

The swanky BIFA award ceremony honoured the best in independent movie making over the last year.

Held in London’s Billingsgate, the star studded evening was hosted by actor Ben Bailey Smith. 

Other nominees included Living which stars Bill Nighy, Florence Pugh’s drama The Wonder and Good Luck to You, Leo Grande with Dame Emma Thompson.

Aftersun was the ceremony’s big winner after the film was awarded seven gongs including the night’s main award for best film.
