The lead singer of Grammy-winning rock band Cage The Elephant was arrested Thursday night after police found two loaded firearms in his room at the Bowery Hotel on Manhattan’s Lower East Side, the DailyMail.com has learned.

Matthew Schultz, 39, was charged with felony criminal possession of a firearm.

A hotel employee saw Schultz, a guest, carrying a handgun into a public restroom on the ground floor on Wednesday night. 

Officers, responding Thursday morning, knocked on the door of Schultz’s hotel room. 

He stepped into the hallway and admitted he had two .45 caliber guns. He was then asked if he still had the weapons and he told cops he did not know.

That prompted police to arrest him and bring him to the 9th precinct stationhouse.

A judge granted a search warrant allowing police to enter the room, where they discovered two loaded guns, a Sig Sauer and a Smith & Wesson.

Shultz spent the night at the 9th precinct in Lower Manhattan.

 On Friday morning he was taken to Bellevue Hospital for unknown reasons, then returned to the stationhouse. 

Schultz, who is from Nashville, Tennessee, has no prior criminal history.

He is a musician, songwriter and guitarist for the band  which won a Grammy for best rock album in 2016 for ‘Tell Me I’m Pretty,’ and in 2019 for ‘Social Cues.’
