Laura Byrne marvels at chip differences between the UK and Australia

[ad_1]

Laura Byrne has admitted she was left ‘mind blown’ after discovering the differences between colouring of chip packets in the UK and Australia.

The Bachelor star, 37, recently landed herself in hot water after she shared an advert of her eating some chips on Thursday and appeared to suffer a copy and paste fail in the process.

Alongside the clip, which showed her putting her children to bed before getting into a robe and opening a bag of chips on the sofa, she posted a caption which opened with: ‘Please see the approved caption below (slight tweaks)’.

However, after quickly fixing the blunder, one fan messaged her to reveal that the in the UK a pink packet indicates the flavour is Prawn Cocktail, while a blue packet is for Cheese & Onion or Salt & Vinegar.

Laura had posted a snap of a bag of Salt & Vinegar Smith’s Chips, which are sold in a pink packet, next to a blue-packed bag of original flavour.

One UK-based fan messaged her to reveal her ‘mind was blown’ after looking at the difference in packaging.

However, after quickly fixing the blunder, one fan messaged her to reveal that the in the UK a pink packet indicates the flavour is Prawn Cocktail, while a blue packet is for Cheese & Onion or Salt & Vinegar

In the UK, most Salt & Vinegar chips are served in blue packets, and Cheese & Onion in green packets. However, market leader Walkers switched the colouring in the mid 1980s around for the best-selling flavours, offering customers blue Cheese & Onion chips and green Salt & Vinegar.

In Australia however,  green means Chicken flavour, blue is for Original – referred to as Ready Salted in the UK, while pink packaging is for Salt & Vinegar and yellow is for Cheese & Onion.

In 2012, research carried out by Charles Spence professor of experimental psychology at University of Oxford, found the wrapper colours for Salt and Vinegar, and Cheese and Onion crisps can affect the product’s taste.

The confusion seems to be on both sides. In 2019, one Brit visiting Australia posted to subreddit Casual UK to describe the chip situation Down Under as ‘truly f***ed;.’

‘You think you could just stroll into your local supermarket and mindlessly grab a bag of your favourite flavour of crisps assuming that the coloured packets correspond with the ones in the UK, you’d be very wrong,’ she wrote.

‘Smith’s seems to be the Aussie equivalent of Walkers and let’s just say the Aussies have f***ed the colour scheme up, big time’.

In Australia blue is for Original – referred to as Ready Salted in the UK which is usually served in red packets

In the UK, pink is used for prawn cocktail flavour (right) while in Australia its used for salt & vinegar

‘To be honest, I’m considering flying home,’ one said.

‘ Thank you for posting. As an Aussie who lived in the UK, I understand the trauma of absentmindedly picking up a pack of chips/crisps based on colour and being disappointed,’ said another.

It comes after Laura,  who is preparing to tie the knot with fellow reality TV contestant Matty ‘J’ Johnson, 34, suffered an awkward social media fail.

Laura suffered an awkward social media fail after being caught posting the wrong caption on a sponsored post for chips earlier this week

While it was quickly corrected, the star’s blunder was spotted by Instagram gossip account Celeb Spellcheck who posted the original caption.

Laura seemed to spot the funny side of her mistake, however, quickly posting in the comments: ‘Dead [laughing emoji] But also, how f**ing good are chips’.

It’s not the first time the star has suffered a social media fail.

It’s not the first time Celeb Spellcheck have called Laura out.

In January last year, she shared an Instagram story that left some of her followers giggling.

‘This dress!! So comfy, without feeling like you’re wearing a moo moo,’ she wrote.

‘Perfect to chuck on over swimmers,’ Laura continued before tagging the brand.

Alongside the clip, which showed her putting her children to bed before getting into a robe and opening a bag of chips on the sofa, she posted a caption which opened with: ‘Please see the approved caption below (slight tweaks)’

The mother-of-two was actually meant to write ‘muumuu’, referring to a loose dress of Hawaiian origin.

Celeb Spellcheck reposted Laura’s Instagram story alongside a snarky caption.

‘Lady and a [cow emoji],’ they wrote in reference to her Instagram handle, Lady and a Cat.

Matty starred on Georgia Love’s season of The Bachelorette in 2016, before becoming The Bachelor himself a year later where he met Laura

It comes as Laura celebrated the next step towards the aisle as she picked up her wedding dress on Saturday.

Sharing a series of snaps to her Instagram to mark the occasion, Laura posed in front of the KYHA boutique in Sydney in dark green co-ords.

Showing her joy, she threw her hands up in the air and kicked one leg back, showing off box fresh white trainers in the process.

Happy family: Matty and Laura recently bought a $1.87million property near Byron Bay. Pictured with children, one-year-old Lola Ellis (left) and two-year-old Marlie Mae

Matty starred on Georgia Love’s season of The Bachelorette in 2016, before becoming The Bachelor himself a year later where he met Laura.

Matty and Laura share daughters Marlie-Mae, two, and Lola, one, together.

They got engaged while on holiday in Fiji in April 2018.
