Her appearance on Friday morning was a passionate one as she told hosts Dermot and Alison that she wants a ‘decent’ Pride of Britain winner to be the next Prime Minister.

The presenter launched an attack on the government and former prime minister Liz Truss as she called for ‘kind’ and ‘brave’ people in the House of Parliament.

She went on to discuss the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, which celebrates ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Carol said she wants one of the ‘decent’ Pride of Britain winners to be the next prime minister, following Truss’ resignation after a disastrous 44 days at the top.

Speaking of the winners, she said: ‘These people are all about decency, about goodness, about kindness, and about bravery and courage.

‘I wish some of them were running the country to be perfectly honest or had some major part in it – that’s what we need in the House of Parliament at the moment.’

Her comments come after Liz Truss became the shortest serving prime minister in British history.
