‘I am losing it. My mental health is evaporating’: Perfect Ruin singer Kwabs breaks down as he reveals his voice has stopped working in heartbreaking video

He’s known for his incredible vocals on songs such as Perfect Ruin and Cheating On Me. 

But singer Kwabs, 32, has shared a heartbreaking video revealing that his voice has stopped working as it should which has taken a huge toll on his mental health.

Kwabs, full name Kwabena Sarkodee Adjepong, broke down as he revealed that he has been in a physical state of discomfort while trying to perform at gigs.

He said: ‘The truth is, I’ve been struggling with my singing voice.

‘I pushed my voice so hard in the first part of my career, that it stopped working the way it’s supposed to and now it’s taking me a really long time to recover from.

‘To summarise: the equipment I use to sing just doesn’t quite work with me. It’s fighting with me. And I’m trying my hardest to make it co-operate again.

‘I try to explain to people exactly how it feels but I always fail. Meanwhile, as you can imagine, my mental health is…’

At this point, Kwabs has to take a pause as he struggles to speak.

Taking a breath, he continued: ‘[My mental health] is evaporating like Spider Man after the ‘Snap’. I mean, I am losing it.

‘You know, it’s so weird trying to perform while being in that physical state of discomfort all the time.

‘At one point, I even asked my manager: “don’t congratulate me after gigs.”

‘I don’t want to hear it because I can’t deal with the fact that something that brings me so much pain and discomfort is bringing you all so much joy.

‘I wasn’t doing well. My voice was getting worse and I was beginning to get this feeling that the people I told about my problem, they weren’t understanding that it couldn’t be quickly fixed.’

Kwabs recently released a new single called Hurt A Little and he asked his fans to sing the song on his behalf. 

He said: ‘So when I ask you can you sing this song for me? Can you sing Hurt A Little for me? I say it from my heart because i don’t know when I’m going to sing it again and I would love to hear you try.’
