Kurtley Beale has been granted bail after he was charged over an alleged sexual assault.

The Wallabies rugby union player was supported by his wife Maddie as his application was made at Parramatta Bail Court, in western Sydney, on Saturday.

A stone-faced Maddie was seen leaving the court and ignoring media following the decision by the judge to grant her partner bail.

Beale left Surry Hills Police Station after spending the night in lockup on Friday.

Police allege a 28-year-old woman was sexually assaulted at a pub on Beach Road at Bondi, in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, on December 17.

Beale was arrested while driving through the suburb of Kingsford on Friday afternoon.

He was taken to Waverley Police Station for questioning and was later charged with two counts of sexually touching another person without consent, inciting another to sexually touch them without consent and sexual intercourse without consent.

Prosecutor Scott Thompson told the court on Saturday a surveillance device warrant allegedly recorded a conversation between Beale and the alleged victim.

‘That conversation alludes to what I would say [were] admissions,’ he said.

He told the court Beale had allegedly sent a message to a friend saying: ‘yeah I messed up, I was out at the pub before Chrissy’.

Beale’s barrister Stephen Stanton argued the calls were ‘an admission of infidelity, no more, no less’.

Beale was granted bail on the condition he does not contact the alleged victim or enter an airport.

He has also been forced to surrender his passport and must report to Waverley Police Station twice a week on Mondays and Fridays.

‘Kurtley Beale has been suspended from all forms of rugby with immediate effect pending the conclusion of legal proceedings,’ it read.

‘This step follows Mr Beale’s arrest and subsequent charge with serious criminal offences, and is in line with Rugby Australia’s Professional Player Code of Conduct.’

Beale, who has played 95 times for his country, took part in a 44-man Wallabies training camp on the Gold Coast last week.

He recently returned to Australia after several years spent playing in France ahead of the Super Rugby season for the NSW Waratahs.

Beale, from NSW, has spent most of his more than decade-long career with the Waratahs, aside from a brief spell with the Melbourne Rebels.
